With millions of Americans facing the prospect of hunger because of Dem leaders in the Senate's refusal to vote in favor of a CR to open and fund the federal government , Republicans could score a huge political win by doing something they have been historically against .. The Nuclear Option ! .. yes that right ! GOP leaders should go nuclear and pass the CR with a simple majority to end the lefts filibuster ! and they should run on that in the midterms ! can you just imagine the political adds the GOP could create ! Dems shut down the gov causing millions to not get paid and millions to lose food benefits but the GOP went Nuclear and insured gov employees got paid and people receiving SNAP benefits got food ! Dems tried to starve you and we stopped them !a powerful political message depicting the Dems as not caring about the poor and gov employees !

Let me preface my comment by starting off that you are of course totally right, except for one thing...

Republicans.

True conservatives by their very nature will opt every time for the safe sure bet even if it doesn't pay as well as a riskier one. Republicans will play it safe rather than risking alienating a single voter. If they wanted to go nuclear, they should do it a way that is allowed only once only to get the government out of a sticky widget; I mean, it stands to reason that if keeping the government open is important, then after a set time limit, if Congress does not agree on a budget, it then eventually falls solely to the ruling party to decide.

But seriously--- when is the last time you ever saw the GOP "swoop in" from anywhere to save anything?

I agree. Repubs should do it, claim the victory and then make sure every 2026 and 2028 campaign ad reminds the public of what the dems did.
