The party that fantasizes about stolen elections and routinely accuses the other side of cheating, is now doing just that. What Texas is attempting to do is a cheap trick. It should be illegal and struck down by the courts. This is a subversion of democracy. The voters should be choosing their representatives, not the other way around. If they are successful in this endeavor it may very well trigger "redistricting wars" in which the parties that have total control of a state draw up the most egregious gerrymanders they can to counter the opposition in other states. The result of this will be less competitive elections, voter disenfranchisement, and lower participation.

Texas GOP lawmakers released their first draft of the state’s new congressional map Wednesday, proposing revamped district lines that attempt to flip five Democratic seats in next year’s midterm elections.

The new map targets Democratic U.S. House members in the Austin, Dallas and Houston metro areas and in South Texas. The draft, unveiled by state Rep. Todd Hunter, R-Corpus Christi, will likely change before the final map is approved by both chambers and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott. Democrats have said they might try to thwart the process by fleeing the state.

This unusual mid-decade redistricting comes after a pressure campaign waged by President Donald Trump’s political team in the hopes of padding Republicans’ narrow majority in the U.S. House.

Currently, Republicans hold 25 of Texas’ 38 House seats. Trump carried 27 of those districts in 2024, including those won by Democratic U.S. Reps. Henry Cuellar of Laredo and Vicente Gonzalez of McAllen.

This is different than California's You Get To Decide Between Democrats system how exactly? Both parties do everything they can to win.....well except be true to their promises when they win.

It could be done with guns, but they all lost them in boating accidents.
Or not. :rolleyes-41:

Texans better watch their asses with these commies and muslims rolling around there. Seriously.
Vote like it's serious, because it is.
Muslims ain't good. When you can kill your daughter you raised with your wife for 19 years with and not give a ****?
That's evil. That's nothing good whatsoever. That's not even for the Quran, that's for disobeying arranged marriage laws.

California is going to gerrymander five to seven GOP districts. No way it can be stopped. That will take care of the GOP's gerrymandering in Texas.

With MAGA mad at Trump over Epstein, no one has any idea what will happen in the elections next year.

:itsok:

Actually the Texas redistricting is required by Article I section 2 of the US constitution and Article III section 28 of the Texas constitution. It's not cheating and is not some Republican cheap trick. It's the law.
