It generates CO2, and the pipelines and drilling leak CH4 into the atmosphere. Nuclear is very expensive, and coal is dirty in all aspects.

Lazard's 2025 LCOE+ report indicates that utility-scale solar and onshore wind remain the most cost-effective forms of new-build energy generation on an unsubsidized basis. Despite macro challenges and headwinds, renewables continue to be the lowest-cost and quickest-to-deploy generation resource. Lazard is considered the go to site for comparing energy costs. And the costs of renewables is lower, with a much shorter build out time, than fossil fuels or nuclear.
