Religions and supernatural beliefs are the enemy of world peace, as shown by 5000 years of war.
Supernatural believing faith-based religious hierarchies have been lying so much to their people that the more vulnerable of their people actually believe the --- mythical, allegorical, imaginary icons that they are persuaded,--- against all logic and reason, --- to believe in as real. That is abuse to a mind.
A mind is a person’s most treasured possession and to allow liars and con men to effect and infect so many minds, --- should be made illegal, as well as a sin, --- but of course, --- the world is not ready for a moral religious lesson.
Logic, reason, logos, intelligent thinking, --- it seems, --- are no match against the vile con men who run the religions and the mythos they and the faith poison they use to damage precious minds.
We and our ancestors have paid a high price to the religious con men that have damaged so many minds. A huge price in minds, cash as well as; world peace.
Those con men should be censored.
Religions are a good thing. They have just forgotten that they were created to produce peace.
Not the God damned God produced 5,000 years of our war filled history.
While those same religions oppressed non-believers, women and gays. As the majority, the religious also impose poverty.

1. Not all religions have been contributors to war. Thus, not all religions are created equal. The primary contributors to war, are the Abrahamic religions. Most of the wars in old Europe were between Catholics, Muslims and Protestants. Based upon their teachings, the most violent of those three is Islam. Any Muslim who considers him/herself to be a "true" Muslim uses "Abrogation" and thus attribute Muhammad's latter teachings of hatred and violence to supersede his earlier teachings of peace.
2. The problem with religion is that when it, whether Catholic or Islam, gain a significant influence on a government, they quickly become intolerant of non-believers and preach hatred towards those who don't believe in or follow their tenets and make their host government take negative actions against the non-believers.
3. There are non-Abrahamic religions that are quite peaceful and bother no one. Jainism is a perfect example. If there ever was a "radical" Janinist, he/she would just avoid bothering anyone.
Buddhism is largely peaceful and a philosophy, rather than an actual belief in a deity. They just lump it in with the religions, because people bring their religion with them when turning to Buddhism.
4. If early man had the answers to all the big questions of the universe, religion wouldn't have been a path and as we still don't have all the answers, religion continues. People can be superstitious.
5. Ultimately though, I don't believe in eliminating religion, at least not all aspects of religion. To do so, is oppressive in its own right. Many people need the belief in a super-natural being to comfort them in the belief that there is no utter end to their existence.

I cannot agree that people need delusions to get through life. Sure, we all lie to ourselves on smaller issues, but to lie to ones self on a major mental issue, is insanity, which is why organized religions are taught in universities to be collective schizophrenia.
Science recognizes what religions are, cons, yet people do not get it, or ignore reality for the tribalism and fellowship.

I think you are underestimating how scary and unknown the world was to our ancestors. It was not just the afterlife that was a mystery to them, but much of the natural world too.
What was the sun? What was the Moon? What was lightening? When was it going to rain? How bad is the winter going to be? Why is there no food? Why did that baby just die?
If there was a tribe or group that just decided to accept that they had no idea what was going on, and to just accept the terror and complete lack of control that came with that,
they died out and were replaced by groups with better coping mechanisms.

Well, to some degree, religions are cons, however, the original purpose came about as bands of tribes would seek answers as to what happens to those that they love, when they die. The Shamans would come up with an answer that would soothe them. Claiming an afterlife and not having to show proof helps.Many people need the belief in a super-natural being to comfort them in the belief that there is no utter end to their existence.

I cannot agree that people need delusions to get through life. Sure, we all lie to ourselves on smaller issues, but to lie to ones self on a major mental issue, is insanity, which is why organized religions are taught in universities to be collective schizophrenia.
Science recognizes what religions are, cons, yet people do not get it, or ignore reality for the tribalism and fellowship.

Then of course, there were behavioral issues that needed to be sorted out and in antiquity, before governmental laws, there were tribal laws. As standup comedian, once said, "they had to draft something to get the men to stop humping camels." And also, stop stealing from others and killing for something they wanted.
There are many good reasons for the existence of religions. They are tribes and we are tribal by nature.
It is just that Christians should know better than to idolize a genocidal Yahweh.
Calling evil good is not mentally healthy.

I think you are underestimating how scary and unknown the world was to our ancestors. It was not just the afterlife that was a mystery to them, but much of the natural world too.
What was the sun? What was the Moon? What was lightening? When was it going to rain? How bad is the winter going to be? Why is there no food? Why did that baby just die?
If there was a tribe or group that just decided to accept that they had no idea what was going on, and to just accept the terror and complete lack of control that came with that,
they died out and were replaced by groups with better coping mechanisms.
Like inquisitions and jihads?
