The way I see it it that Dems would love to see it become an issue, but you won't see obama himself mention Romney's faith because that would bring Reverend Jeremiah back into the mix.

I really don't think the Obama campaign worries all that much about Wright. it's mainly an issue among those who would never vote for Obama anyway. I watched Wright's sermon in which the phrase "God damn America" was used and, allowing for the fact that he's a Christian, I agreed with mot of it.

I have to agree here. But I suspect the impact will be minimal. The religious right never ventures beyond Fox and you certainly won't see the 24/7 coverage of this (like you did on Rev. Wright) on Fox. In fact Fox probably won't mention it all and if they do they will replace the word "mormon" with "Christian."

And, sorry, but the left has a tradition of pretending to be religious. Remember President Carter, a proud leftist Democrat. Remember Bill Clinton. So devout. And, remember President Obama who can't possibly believe in a god that's greater than himself.

So, the far left and the far right will obsess over Gov. Romney's religion. The rest of us are more concerned about his politics which is something else the left has to pretend about.

The real question will we hear about race from the left again? Will socialist once again be a "code word" for black? Will incompetent be a new "code word" for black? Will President Obama's campaign be nothing substantive and only class warfare, race warfare, and gender warfare? Probably.

Sure if you listen to Right Wing Talk Radio or Fox news you heard about it, but if you listen to the Main Stream Media like most normal americans (you know the nbc network, abc, new york times, boston globe) you would have had a hard time hearing about it.

If you had a more balanced diet of information, you would realize that EVERY news outlet covered Rev. Wright extensively. Venture out from your Fox cocoon every now and then and you will learn a lot.

You are in effect saying that the mainstream media failed in their coverage of Rev. Wright because they did not deliberately present the subject in a way that could maximize its potential for political damage to the Obama campaign. Don't bother denying this; that's exactly the meaning of the part I snipped out. (See, if anything I made you look better and less partisan.) The mainstream media outlets gave the subject of Rev. Wright what any reasonable person not motivated politically would consider in-depth coverage, given that we're talking about television which by nature is never really in depth about anything.

Yeah, there's some problematic stuff there and some early violent periods, but most religions have that too. There's some splinter wacko groups, but most denominations in Christianity have that too. There isn't much terribly shocking in there.

Very good points. I might be incrementally more shocked than you about the mormon church (I recommend "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer) but overall, he's probably going to win the Bible belt anyway.
