It would take AstraZeneca a lot longer to develop a vaccine without this liability protection. In fact, they'd probably be just as likely to drop the project completely without this.

A 10-12 year timeline to get the vaccine through all the testing that AZ would require before they would be ready to market it, would mean that it likely wouldn't have much of a market as the disease will likely be gone by then.

I'd take a vaccine from Bill Gates, but not from Donald Trump. Look at how badly he fucked up the testing, letting companies sell crappy tests that don't work. I don't trust him to put out a viable safe vaccine that doesn't kill people.

He'll just keep pushing it because he's already spent so much money on it, just like Trump is still pushing hydroxychloroquine, even though every study of its use has been halted because so many people were dying. Trump won't want to be stuck with millions of doses of poison. He'll push it off on the minorities. Just like he's pushing them to go back to work without sick leave, heath insurance, or PPE's, all while stripping them of their right to sue for unsafe work places.

My last GP(GP's are retiring out like crazy!) had me inoculated for flu, A & B hepatitis, & tetanus. I am still alive. I agree with you: "...trust no one politician." I do not support candidates that are married to the RepubliCratic Duopoly Party(RCDP). I only support candidates that are known to be vested into "Original Intent Constitutional Law". Even though I have excellent insurance coverage I didn't figure on rushing out and getting the vaccine as soon as it became available. I'll wait and give it a few months. The situation is similar to the protection provided to operators of nuclear power plants, although the limit of liability has increased quite a bit over the years since the 1950's.

By the time there's even a shitty vaccine, the economy will already have disappeared down the tubes. It's pretty much there now. The vaccine might be ready by year's end, but that's just finding the right formula - they then have to manufacture enough of it, package it, and ship it out to the medical centres in enough numbers to vaccinate 70% of the population.

60,000 people getting sick every day for the next 151 days is another 1.75 million people sick, 375,000 of them seriously and probably permanently affected, another 100,000 dead, even at the lower death rates.

150,000 small businesses have already closed permanently. This will help drive down the wages paid for the surviving jobs. Fewer jobs and a lot of hungry people, especially now that benefits are being cut off.

You had about a three month window to get a handle on this thing before it was too big to control. Just the cost of testing and treating all of the hundreds of thousands who are getting sick from now until the end of the year, will kill the economy. Trump lacked the leadership skills or the patience to do the right thing. He just wanted it over with so he could get back to campaign rallies.
