Been a looong time since watching this one. Saw it first time in the theater in 1984, I think I watched it again with the kids in the late 90s.
Well... it doesn't exactly pass the test of time. At 19 years old I do remember liking the movie, probably because I wanted to be one of them. LOL Today - well... nostalgic, so yeah. But the acting is so bad. Really bad. Of course it is epically unrealistic, but you can squeak by that to just enjoy the story. It is one of those movies that is a part of your generation, so you give it a lot of slack. It is enjoyable.
The remake, have not or will ever watch it. It seems sacrilege. Like someone remaking Point Break.

Ya gotta wonder, where did his parents get the idea to name him "Powers Booth"?
LOL

My guess is that powers was his middle name and his names was Harvey Powers Booth or some such. Then he changed it because he would be the only one named Powers in Holllywood.

Nice movie. A bit resembles me "Solo Voyage" (1985) about valiant Soviet soldiers and brave American citizens fighting together against evil US Army and mercenaries.

Interesting.

Seems strange to us, I guess. But, all our Aidens, Cadens, Haydens, and Braydens would seem weird to the WWII generation.
There was not one Peter, Tom, Jeff, Beth, or Nancy in my kids' schools growing up.
