Record clips from HD DVDs

What's a good software package for this? I'm having problems with VLC doing HD and Blu-ray, seems to be too much data to process. Not really looking for fancy, I just want to create a small MP4 or whatever to capture a few minutes of my favorite movies.

Fraps and then handbrake to convert to mp4.

The more powerful the computer, the less time it will take.
