Reagan Warned Us About The Direction Of The Democratic Party

Great video! I was a democrat back then because I was young and very naive and often fell for the tearjerker "But what about the children?" pleas. Plus the problems of America were largely based on the GOP being the pro-establishment party at the time. I always though it was strange that Reagan was so anti-government yet he was pro-establishment. Back then I was anti-government AND I was anti-establishment. Funny thing is I still am anti-government and anti-establishment. That probably is why today I just can't tolerate the democraps who are now the pro- massive government and pro- massive establishment party. Today I can live with Trump, who seems to also hate what the federal government has become.

And to think, that was back when the dems were somewhat sane.....It's also about the same time when "Blue Dog" dems were starting to lose ground as the insane dems started taking over the party.
I was a Blue Dog Democrat many years ago.
And what you say is exactly right. They lost me because the party took a ride on the crazy train and never got off.

So many pretty words to just say that Democrats are evil and have nothing more than the destruction of The People in this country.

In his own way Reagan was the first "deep state" (a fiction) hysteric. His simplistic demonization of government, designed to give the public something to blame for their plight (an age old Repub ploy), tried to make government something it isn't, an abstraction. We are the government, the county clerks and school board members and state representatives and senators. If those people are failing us, as trump is, we are responsible for replacing them. Pretending government is an amorphous entity beyond our control is the populist nonsense of charlatans and hucksters playing to the weak minded..............like Ron.

When did you finally realize that the democraps were a bad party? I always thought both parties sucked, and slightly preferred the democrats from 1982 to 2016. Then I started to pay a lot more attention to politics and soon realized how insidious the democraps had actually become. Since then, in comparison the GOP sucks a lot less than the current democraps. But, for the record, both parties still suck, it's just that the democraps REALLY, REALLY suck today.

Citizenship demands that we do something when our elected officials fail us. Not piss and moan.

9/11.
I started paying a lot more attention, realized the Democrats who very much seemed to want us to lose the Iraq/Afghanistan war opened my eyes. Then I started to realize how bad liberal social policies were creating generational dependency and poverty, not solving it.

The same liberal social policies are still supported by both parties...Since neither has taken away welfare.

So, the usual. Conservatives blaming liberals for the consistent catastrophic failure of conservative economic policy.

The economy crashes under conservatives, booms under liberals. Democrats always have to clean up the reeking mess of an economy that conservatives leave behind.

Clinton had to clean up after the Bush I recession.

Obama had to clean up the Bush II recession.

Biden had to clean up the Trump recession.

The next Democratic president will have to clean up the Trump depression.

Conservatives can't defend their unblemished record of perfect failure, so their only option is to deflect from it. That's what this thread attempted to do.

Today democrats tell us that our rights come from government

And can be taken at government discretion.

Incorrect.
The original welfare program, as well as food stamps etc., were not designed to be a permanent source of income. Plus they had strings attached to them, i.e. - must be looking for employment etc.
The Democrats kept growing all of the social programs which is 100% what caused blacks in America to be what they are today. Significantly behind other races, significant elevated poverty and crime.
Republicans never have and never will support that

They are paying for it now, whether you like it or not.

While federal law provides foundational guidelines, states can determine acceptable work activities and administer programs

Yet Reagan was right about everything. Weird.

I didn't say they weren't paying for it, I said they don't support it.

You’re funny.

By do something you mean give them more and more money to grift and buy votes.
I mean protest, form a citizens group, work for a candidate you believe in, work to get money out of politics, only support candidates who promise to do so.
