They were protesting what they perceived to be an unfair election, which most of them did....legally. A few crazies instigated by FBI plants crashed the chambers and essentially did nothing but walk around and act stupid. They are not charged with insurrection but they have been punished and held in jail longer than a felon. A DC cop pulled a 'Barney Fife' and shot and killed an unarmed woman protester.

Sure, it's been said that the counting is largely symbolic. Nothing those rioters could have done would have stopped anything.

What they did would have had zero effect on Biden becoming president. Now, that doesn't excuse what they did, but, they thought they could stop what they perceived as election fraud.

I understand that justice will need to be done, I just don't think treason is going to be one of the charged levied against them.
