The first figure represents the number of offenders currently out of Arkansas prisons on supervised parole or probation. The second is the number of parole officers employed by the state to supervise them.

If all the offenders were distributed equally, each parole officer would have an average caseload of 130. Experts agree the ideal number of offenders assigned to a parole officer is approximately 100.

On the wall of Baxter County parole officer Harry Nuccio's office hangs a mock certificate of appreciation for membership in the "400 Plus Club," which represents having more than 400 parolees on his caseload in 2012. While the certificate was a joke, the caseload was real, and no laughing matter.
