There's a problem with the pilot wave proposal: how does a specific electron know to couple to a specific ripple in a wave? How is this choice recorded?

This objection contains a category error. In Bohmian mechanics, the particle doesn't choose or couple to a specific ripple. It rides the total wave function continuously via the guiding equation. This question assumes a decomposition that isn't operationally meaningful to the particle.
