I have taught in an all-boys school where students were required to wear dress shirts and ties. It was more hassle than what it was worth because these were all poor kids who didn't have the resources to keep their clothes in good repair or to buy quality clothing. A simple T-shirt would have been more practical.

Sure...all should be required to wear orange jumpsuits, with "PRISONER"...er, "STUDENT" stenciled on the back.

Kids judge other kids by their clothing and appearance. Uniforms can reduce this. However, I think a dress code is better, such as dressy casual for boys, modesty for the girls.

In my middle school (co-ed) we had to wear a polo shirt with the school’s name and black or khaki pants.

Worked great. Particularly decreased a lot of the drama/meanness among the girls by eliminating a major source of their bullying each other. There’s no meaner demographic on earth than 13 year old girls.

I’m surprised so many so far seem against school uniforms.

Didn't have that problem as there were no girls!
