Post Stories of Suffering Caused by the Shutdown

We are talking about working full time and not getting paid

Should the children of military families starve because their parents are not being paid?
No.

Praise Allah that Trump found a way to pay them.

If only the Senate Dems would let the military be funded at least, their pay could continue.

Trump shuffled some money to cover a pay period.
Can’t be done indefinitely

It won't be needed past November.

The Dems' base will revolt. Fedemps apparently don't plan ahead, because their families will starve if they miss another payday. People on WIC and SNAP will have to stack the bodies of their children on the sidewalk, because there will be mass starvation and state and local governments will say it is up to the feds to deal with it.

Especially when those Dems get their notices of premium rates and find out it isn't three thousand a month or those other dire predictions Democrats are making to try and get the GOP to quick agree to keeping the Obamacare subsidies.

The GOP has already offered a concession, that Dems rejected. The Dems will come up with something that adds little to that concession and the GOP will say, "well . . . okay."

Plus, Fedemps should be BETTER prepared to withstand this type of thing than regular private employees, for whom this type of thing happens all the time:

1) The know that they are vulnerable to a delayed paycheck every October, whereas private employees can be axed at any time. NO excuse why they don’t have at least a couple of paychecks saved for this.

2) Of course, it’s only a delay. They end up not losing any money at all.

3) On average, Fedemps earn more than private. If they can’t save even 30 days’ of money knowing this is a real possibility every fall, they’re living beyond their means.

There's a shutdown?
It’s sort of back to how it was when the govt workers “worked” from home around here - back to big crowds mid-day at Trader Joe’s and hard to find a spot at the gym.

I'll start:

Barbie Anderson is trying to conserve the milk her three young children drink in case she doesn’t get her WIC benefits on October 15 as scheduled.

Though Anderson and her husband both work, they have depended on the federal food assistance program to stretch out their grocery budget since their older son was born nine years ago. The money is especially important because the prices are very high at the closest supermarket to their rural northern Minnesota home, with a gallon of milk costing more than $5.

The WIC benefits her 3-year-old son receives allow her to purchase oranges and orange juice – which she considers vital to strengthening the children’s immune systems so they don’t have to go to the doctor – and to pick up essential items. It’s the only public assistance the family receives.

“We don’t have the money to buy milk, eggs and everything that the kids need right now,” said Anderson, who works in billing part-time, while her husband works in a lumberyard. “We’ve always struggled, but now we struggle even more to try to make it.”

How long will the cruelty of those who engineered this shutdown last?
We can't afford to feed kids, so let's have kids, then blame the government 🤔

Last I heard, WIC was going to be continued with tariff money.

Makes sense, because WIC is healthy necessities for children -- milk, eggs, cereal, fruit juice, peanut butter, cheese, whole wheat bread -- all pop up to the top of my mind, not soda and cookies and Doritos.

Great point! I know a couple -- he's deeply in debt after spending a boatload of money to woo her. They're struggling to be able to afford to get married, but she still gets fancy $10 coffee drinks and has her nails done in a salon, and they went ahead and got pregnant! They had an expensive "gender reveal" party, and she won't get married until they can afford to do it in style.

I get the feeling that this is pretty normal for young people today.

She's on WIC, and I truly don't believe they deserve the help.

should not be normal

They won't starve. We had a shutdown when I was on active duty and the units' fed dependents in the mess hall.

No, and that is a good point.

particularly, they will not change their mind over the shutdown, for a few reasons.

Not LIBs...since it is something in thier DNA.

That is not what MAGATs say about black people....

Milk doesn’t cost anywhere near $5 a gallon. Walmart has it for $2.64. These people need to move out of their high-tax leftwing state.
