The larger units are a PITA to descale.

This is the one I use....Easy peasy.

Just dump some white vinegar in the top let it sit for a while then dump it into the boiling chamber and let it sit.

Run a few cycles through it and you are GTG for several months. I use filtered water from a Britta pitcher so that really helps.

I have an extra unit on hand in case the one in use shits the bed.

The funny thing is I found the one I use about five years ago at a yard sale for $3.00. It was new in the box and still had some gift wrap paper on the box.

It worked so well for me I figured I better buy a back-up.

Barbie Anderson is trying to conserve the milk her three young children drink in case she doesn’t get her WIC benefits on October 15 as scheduled.

Though Anderson and her husband both work, they have depended on the federal food assistance program to stretch out their grocery budget since their older son was born nine years ago. The money is especially important because the prices are very high at the closest supermarket to their rural northern Minnesota home, with a gallon of milk costing more than $5.

The WIC benefits her 3-year-old son receives allow her to purchase oranges and orange juice – which she considers vital to strengthening the children’s immune systems so they don’t have to go to the doctor – and to pick up essential items. It’s the only public assistance the family receives.

“We don’t have the money to buy milk, eggs and everything that the kids need right now,” said Anderson, who works in billing part-time, while her husband works in a lumberyard. “We’ve always struggled, but now we struggle even more to try to make it.”

How long will the cruelty of those who engineered this shutdown last?

I guess Barbie will be voting Republican from now on, huh. If enough Republicans had been elected in the Senate, the Democrats wouldn't have been able to shut down the government.

And we might even have the chance to enact laws that require Congress to be responsible and responsive to the people and make sure there will be no government shutdowns because one party refuses to do its job.

No, and that is a good point.

particularly, they will not change their mind over the shutdown, for a few reasons.

As any decent human being, I was concerned when I saw that they will not be able to afford milk and eggs for their children. Then I wondered, since they're both working, what purchases are they prioritizing over feeding their kids?

That's the thing. I would cancel my cable, cancel all subscriptions, forego ALL expenses of ALL kinds that were not 100% critical to the welfare of my family, downsize my car, sell my house, even beg in the streets, before I would let my children go without food or any other critical necessity they need. I know it sounds harsh, but people--especially two working adults--who can't afford to feed their kids without WIC should not be having children at all.

Beans and rice form a perfect protein and eliminate the need for more expensive protein and bought in bulk are pretty cheap. Most beans are also a good source of calcium. Children don't need orange juice to be healthy or protected--one orange alone provides all the vitamin C they need plus fiber and other nutrients.

Long ago, the authorities would remove from the home abused or neglected children or those the parent(s) could not or would not provide necessities for. There is a strong argument that such should still be the law.

I posted the op, and I never said that nobody is affected. Quite the opposite, I pleaded, what democrats to end the shutdown that they brought about.

I did question what this couple spends its money on that is a higher priority than eggs and milk for their children.

Maybe they are so used to taxpayers buying their children's milk and eggs for them that they don't remember what the process is to make those purchases? Yes, I will bet that that is it.They are probably looking for the milk and eggs app on their phones as we speak.
