Kamala Harris will benefit in early polls from name recognition alone.

The question is how well she can do in the primary election*

* note: the top two vote-getters regardless of party advance to the general election. If she is a distant second to another Democrat, then she's toast. If she's the top vote getter, and/or runs against a Republican in the general election, she'll cruise to the governorship.

Many Democrats may recognize that she was not a good candidate, inarticulate, inconsistent, and insincere. And she couldn't overcome the baggage of Bidenomics (she could not distance herself from it and voters noticed).

Democrats may blame her for losing a seemingly winnable matchup against Donald Trump if only she just could have connected with voters (the "I grew up a middle-class kid" schtick just didn't cut it), and they may look elsewhere for a Newsom replacement.

I think that is why she dropped out in 2020. She didn't want to deal with the embarrassment of losing the CA primary. I think a lot, not all, of the leftists in CA have opened their eyes and become disillusioned with the democrat party's lunatic leadership. She would be well advised to just fade away.
