Paul Ryan's Big Reform Ideas: A Winner.

I'm all for profit making. The problem is that when government gets involved, the market is always distorted. The profit-making venture becomes a means unto itself. If one is making money off a problem, one is not exactly motivated to see the problem end. Profit makers actually have to grow to survive. That's great when the product is MP3 players, but not great when the product is prisons.

So if your company is paid to distribute aid are you saying there would be no profit motive to curb or eliminate the need for that aid? Imagine that!

I am now going to quote Ronald Reagan:

"No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. So governments' programs, once launched, never disappear.

"Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth."

it's a tricky question. obviously a bureau will try to justify their existence, but by the same token any private operator will do the same thing. but then i have to ask why anyone should be making money off of a mandated government program?

Business is to make profit, Government is to provide service, and therein is the problem when the two are mixed.

Yeah, but look at "not profit" hospitals run by religious groups. Still, making a buck on providing a hot lunch to an orphan ...... there is a certain odor.

You have a problem with people making profit, period.

This is a liberal disease. Somehow profit making institutions like Hobby Lobby are evil but government institutions like the VA are peopled by saints.

no one has a problem with people "making a profit". but there are some things that are governmental functions and not intended for corporatists to exploit

do you have a problem with not exploiting workers and the public?

Don't help him out. It's sort of fun to watch him trying to cross a street by himself.

indeed.

The Rabbi believes government should be making profits.

The Rabbi believes governments should allow businesses to make profits from government.

Why not put a 500 percent tie on ceo to the lowest paid workers wages? Everytime the ceo wants more = he has to be able to pay everyone else that much. 20,000 dollars x 500 = 10,000,000 bucks. This would force a business to either pay the workers more or build outwards which may mean more jobs will be hired.

Secondly, raise income taxes on all making more than 5 million a year to 30%. NO MORE 15%'s! No more rawmoneies! This can help us pay for more infrastructure, etc. Really = more jobs aimed at the poor.

Thirdly, why not a corporate tax reduction or some other kind of deduction for businesses that hire more employees every year over the last.

This would encourage work of the poor and middle classes.

I don't like the notion of organizations making a profit from delivering aid, and I'd cap the % of total expenditures that non-profits can use for administration of a program. But, he's really the only goper with a chance in hell of winning the nomination whom I'd consider voting for, and I don't doubt his sincerity.

I used to think that about the military. They would take care of everything the troops needed.

Then Iraq and "war privatization" came along. And low and behold there was very good money to be made doing for the soldiers what other soldiers used to do.

And things went so well. Till the electrician electrocuted those troops in Iraq while they were in the shower. Ah but what the hell. It was being done all in the name of profit and sometimes things don't go like they are planned.

Could not agree more. Nothing pisses me off more than contractors like that, or the ******* mercenary groups like blackwater

Thank the neo-corporationists like Cheney of the military-industrial complex who are nothing more than corporate gangsters of the worst sort: milking the American taxpayer for sub-par services at exorbitant prices.
