Military.com cited Fox News in stating that Deputy Secretary of Defense Shanahan will replace General Mattis.

Makes sense but one wonders if it’s only temporary until the president finds someone else who fits his desires.

"I am pleased to announce that our very talented Deputy Secretary of Defense, Patrick Shanahan, will assume the title of Acting Secretary of Defense starting January 1, 2019," Trump wrote on Twitter Sunday morning. "Patrick has a long list of accomplishments while serving as Deputy, & previously Boeing. He will be great!"

The most important plus about this man who has been responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of DOD is that Senator McCain once threatened to block his appointment.

Zero military or foreign policy experience, eh? trump bootlicker, eh? Yep, another desperate, idiotic Trump pick, as the rats jump off the sinking ship. I imagine the number of qualified people willing to work with trump has dwindled to about zero, give or take zero.

Yes, that's probably just about the depth of thought Trump put into it. You know, your analysis there is not something to be proud of, but rather something to be embarrassed of.

What’s he, another businessman?

Great, just what we need, another businessman.

No military experience. No intelligence experience. No international relations experience. In other words, another Trump appointee rising to his level of incompetence. Another Trump appointee that will have the world laughing at us. Another Trump appointee who will add to the chaos and who knows what else in Trump's sinking ship administration.

In spite of all your TDS rants, the man has been overseeing the day-to-day operations on DOD for almost 2 years. He knows the ins and outs of its working and is already in place.

Mattis said he was staying "to oversee a smooth transition." What could be smoother than someone already in place?

He didn't like the president's decisions so it's right that he's out the door. Now!

Yeah. Reminds one of all Obama appointments.

A “man” who will choose Trump over country every time; the most important criteria to work in this administration. I look forward to his inevitable humiliation and banishment.

Do you know what they say about military intelligence in the military? :abgg2q.jpg:

He's a good choice as interim SecDef. He's been working there for two years so knows the ins and outs.

I'll be interested to see who Trump appoints as Director.

I love Mattis and hate to see him go but it is what it is.
