That is my take on it too...... it is a generic greeting card..... and i am more then fine with it.
Christmas is an official national holiday...
Our history is Christian...
Our Founders were mostly Christian...
Our Constitution references the Creator....
We supposedly have freedom OF religion.....not freedom FROM religion....
Our country wouldn't be the success that it is without basis in a lot of Christian principles...
Why is it so hard to acknowledge the truth of our history......especially at Christmas....?
Yes, Christmas is a national holiday...since U S Grant made it so in 1870. So, it hasn't been a national holiday since the birth of the US Constitution.
correct
Our history isn't Christian. Our history has a lot of Christians as part of it. It also has Jews, Atheists, and other non Christians who are JUST as much American citizens as the Christians are.
But like 99.9% of them were Christians...
As Dot Com stated, a lot of the founders were Deists.
a few were.....the vast majority were Protestants....(see wiki ref)
The US Constitution does not mention a creator. The Declaration of Independence does. However, the DoI doesn't mention Jesus or Christianity. Additionally, the DoI is not the law of the land. The Constitution is.
oops my bad....it was the Declaration as you say....neverthless an important founding document...
Freedom OF religion includes freedom FROM religion since nobody is forced to become a member of any religion.
nobody is being forced into any religion....yet the lefties continue to think we must be free from religious expression in the public square...
A great many Christian principles are pretty much universal when it comes to religion, in general. So, stating that our country is as successful as it is simply because of a Christian past is misleading. Keep in mind, a lot of our Christian forefathers did many things that would hardly be considered Christian, then or now. Slavery and killing the American Indians come to mind. Probably one of the things that made America great had more to do with unlimited resources, slave labor, and having no powerful countries on our borders to challenge America as it set about building the nation.
yet Christian values made our country great...
Finally, the US Constitution is a secular document. That's a fact. If the founding fathers had wanted to somehow make Christianity an official part of the US Constitution, they could have done so. They obviously chose not to do it. And I would appreciate it if religious people would accept that fact instead of trying to somehow graft the Bible into the Constitution because they think they know better than the founding fathers.
yes it is secular....in order to have freedom of religion....yet still our country was founded on Christian values....
