I think they are both trying to show that they're incredibly active and aggressive in public, but some of the decisions behind the scenes haven't always reflected the best judgment of career professionals. In the case of Alex Azar, he did go to the president in January. He did push past resistance from the president's political aides to warn the president the new coronavirus could be a major problem. There were aides around Trump - Kellyanne Conway had some skepticism at times that this was something that needed to be a presidential priority.

But at the same time, Secretary Azar has not always given the president the worst-case scenario of what could happen. My understanding is he did not push to do aggressive additional testing in recent weeks, and that's partly because more testing might have led to more cases being discovered of coronavirus outbreak, and the president had made clear - the lower the numbers on coronavirus, the better for the president, the better for his potential reelection this fall.​

Having thwarted early action to protect health and save lives, he now needs to be seen doing ... something.

Having thought a few million stolen from those in need of heating assistance was enough... having thought a billion or two could also suffice, Trump then left the initiative to Congress. They appropriated $8.3bn. Now he's trying to top that - because the explosion of cases looks ungood if the president is seen as having his thumbs up his ass. It's an election emergency.

What failures? Did you want him to quarantine the nation after China announced (a month late it seems), well actually DIDN'T announce, that came from a now deceased hero doctor, that there was a serious virus going around?

If he quarantined everyone and companies well belly up, the nation went under Martial Law, would you applaud his efforts?

These things aren't always easy to deal with, he's made some bold decisions and is confronting it, with once again, little support from MSM.

Canada did NOTHING. To this day, still nothing, except give a 2 week extension for March Break for schools. We were caught so flat footed that only now are some in government considering some planning and decision making. This goes for local, provincial and the Feds.

Trump has been trying to downplay the Coronavirus for weeks. He’s taking actions now that could have been done months ago which would have made us far better prepared to test, treat and isolate cases.

NATURE is wholly to blame for this virus. China held it in using draconian measures for a good long time, but the reality is that nature produces new viruses every year, and usually in a different part of the world every year.

The rest of the world used the time to prepare testing, and to prepare their health care systems to handle the influx of cases. The USA used that time to close it's borders and to pretend they had done their job. Trumpy Bear dismantled Obama's pandemic preparedness office and fired the Director and Assistant director of the CDC. He didn't even have a task force working on dealing with the virus until last week.

One of my friends said the difference between the Canadian government press conferences and those of the Trump Administration are mind boggling. The Canadian conferences are fact, facts, and nothing but the facts. The American conferences all have Trump staffers sucking his dick, and trying to correct his lies and misinformation.
