Oregon sues Trump administration over National Guard deployment: 'It is unlawful'

Why do they need the guard? Couldn't they send actual law enforcement?
Because Oregon and Portland leadership refuse to use their own law enforcement to enforce the law, and the National Guard is being brought in to fill the gap to protect federal officers and property.

‘Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced Sunday that the state has filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration alleging that President Donald Trump unlawfully ordered the deployment of 200 Oregon National Guard members for federal law enforcement duties.

The lawsuit, which was filed jointly by the State of Oregon and the City of Portland in U.S. District Court, challenges the legal basis of the federal order. It names President Trump, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and their respective departments as defendants.

In a statement, Rayfield said the deployment is not based on any legitimate threat but is instead “about the President flexing political muscle under the guise of law and order.”

“Oregon communities are stable, and our local officials have been clear: we have the capacity to manage public safety without federal interference,” Rayfield said. “Sending in 200 National Guard troops to guard a single building is not normal.”’

Of course it's unlawful.

There is neither ‘rebellion’ nor ‘unrest’ in Portland to justify Trump's deploying 200 National Guard troops.
There is plenty of unrest that borders on rebellion in Portland that the squat-to-pee dems refuse to deal with

Outrageous..

I've lived there, in Portland, and Stable would be the last word I would use... It's gotten FAR worse since I lived there, from accounts on the news..

That guy is bonkers (but that goes w/o saying since he's a libtard)

Maybe give the city enough $ to hire another hundred full time plus full benefits police officers. That would cost el zippo. Nothing.

"no unrest in Portland'istan."

Such are the feverish hallucinations of the low IQ leftists. I would hope the left enables more of their transtifa and blm Jihad warriors. Let more city blocks burn and let the voters get what they voted for.

This is Portland we're talking about here. BTW, since the ICE facility is federal property, federal presence is allowed. So, which federal law enforcement would you prefer to be there if not the guard?

I dont see the word Federal
Feds have law enforcement. FBI, MArshalls, ICE< ATF, they even have an entire department who's only job is to protect Federal property.

The National Guard was called in because ICE agents were being attacked. Perfectly constitutional.

If these governors don’t want the help don’t send it the guard there offer them to those that do want the help and let these other states and cities in them fend for themselves and if they burn so be it.

Not so much.

The Insurrection Act of 1807 is the U.S. federal law that empowers the president of the United States to nationally deploy the U.S. military and to federalize the National Guard units of the individual states in specific circumstances, such as the suppression of civil disorder, of insurrection, and of armed rebellion against the federal government of the U.S.

Good luck.

Try walking down a street in Portland at night and the Police might tell your relatives that it was your fault when they find your body. Democrat politicians don't give a damn as long as they have the Oregon State Police guarding their homes 24/7.

National as in Nation
States comprise the Nation
What states won’t do to enforce laws the National will do

When did Trump use the Insurrection act?
