See below excerpt from American Prometheus (pg 288), a biographical exposition [that Sherwin wrote]...

“The war, he argued, should not end without knowing about this primordial new weapon. The worst outcome would be if the gadget remained a military secret. If that happened, the the next war would almost certainly be fought with atomic weapons. They had to forge ahead, he explained, to the point where the gadget could be tested. He pointed out that the new United Nations was scheduled to hold its inaugural meeting in April 1945—and that it was important that the delegates begin their deliberations on the postwar world with the knowledge that mankind had invented these weapons of mass destruction.”

The same man who [being Szilard] deliberately invoked the highest political executive about nuclear fission, and the dangers implied... later solemnly retracted his positional adjunct relevant to such a fragile matter [again Szilard]. Sure he had the moral support of the leading physicist of the age [the father behind relativity theory] but his imperative urgency reflected therein hints that this was of his own volitional undertaking. Conductive flippancy of this kind surely detracted from the serious nature of the forthcoming transoceanic animosity [with the Soviet Union] and the resulting widespread paranoia [during the Red Scare]. There had been not only one, but two secretive operatives propagating confidential information to the western rivals about the developmental momentum [of the bomb project] in the race against fascism. If a more historically celebrated presidential administrator were to have duteously overseen the chaos amidst this era how may the ideal choice had acted??

With the cooperation of the media and the innate secrecy of the mission the eggheads were able to dodge responsibility for the freaking monstrosity they created. Einstein and Oppenheimer and a dozen other creators of the Frankenstein monster got away with feigning ignorance when it's clear that they were dying to test their Frankenstein monster on human beings. There wasn't a single Asian PHD in the crowd when the eggheads lobbied the president to use it on human targets.

When they lobbied FDR, the Japanese weren't even considered as a primary target. The Germans were it's intended victims. Twisting history does no one any favors.
