A professor of theology was one of the heroes of the 3 day battle, made famous today because of the movie Gettysburg showing his heroic actions. Thousands of incredible stories of that battle, and the movie did a great job with his.
He’s placed with his 20th Maine at the extreme left flank of the Union Army and he’s ordered to hold at all costs. If he’s overrun the Union Army will be flanked and most likely fold up.
After repeated attacks on his position his men are out of ammunition. So having read books on military strategy, he orders a cartwheel bayonet charge.
He was awarded the CoM for his actions.
