On issue of gays in military,P...Congress...

I'm already retired from the military thank you, they won't be getting rid of me. And I am not a bigot at all. I see no reason to fix what isn't broke.

Define homosexuality. Is it not a person who is sexually attracted to a member of the same sex? Yet you see no problem with allowing this person to live with the same sex....

Is this not the same as a female reporting to a Unit and being assigned to a room with males? Or a male being assigned to a room with females?

Lets see how big that goes over.......

Its happened before.. everyone knew he was gay... and how did his fellow Marines react? They named him "Marine of the Quarter."

Kirsten Gillibrand, Democrat for U.S. Senate - Don't Ask Don't Tell Story Project

I guess that kills your argument.

I find it extremely difficult to believe that this Marine came out and then served 4 more years. Especially in 93 when they were gutting the military and looking for people to leave. Offering early retirements and God knows what.

But I have made my case and stand by it. We will see.

Your case was proven bullshit by that one example.

Do some more research on him if you want the story is in more than one place.

If we end "DADT", then cowards won't have a "way out", unless they admit to being cowards.
And the poor Republicans. Being more afraid of the gays than of the terrorists. They will show the world the meaning of the word, "Pussy".

Main Entry: 1ho·mo·sex·u·al
Pronunciation: \ˌhō-mə-ˈsek-sh(ə-)wəl, -ˈsek-shəl\
Function: adjective
Date: 1892

1 : of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex
2 : of, relating to, or involving sexual intercourse between persons of the same sex

— ho·mo·sex·u·al·ly adverb

To force someone who is not homosexual to live with someone who is, is just plain wrong. It is a tendency that most of us have been taught to know is wrong. For those who see things differently, good for you, but you cannot force your feelings on the majority. That is also wrong.

Or is it really all about you?

DADT works, it allows Gays to serve if they so desire yet does not cause the problems that very well may arise if they serve openly.

Again, we shall see.

BTW if the marines allowed an openly gay person to serve for 4 years after he outed himself, then they were wrong and went against regulation, I may have lost some respect for some Marines.

the military changed when blacks served with whites....the military changed when women served with men.....the military will change again....

people will scream and yell and then it will all quiet down.....

I find it disturbing that Gay military personnel are fighting the Muslim Taliban in Afghanistan only to return home and have to fight the Christian Taliban in their own backyard.
To those male military personnel that feel threatened by living in close quarters with Gays, get over yourselves. Just because they are homosexual doesn't automatically mean they're attracted to you. Heterosexual males are not compelled to want sex with every female they meet and Gays are no different in respect to other males. I realize that I may bruise a few fragile heterosexual male egos here, but many of you just aren't that attractive and will probably not arouse the attention of the Gays you may meet.

Many conservative Republicans wanted the ban lifted decades ago.
Man, times have changed.
The TV evangelists did not run the party then.

i dont agree.....we dont need little girlies defending us in the military:eek::cuckoo:

I found out ...years later...one of my karate instructors was gay. Any thoughts I had about gays were changed for the rest of my life when i found this out.

There are the swishy gay people out there sure, but there are gays out ther who can kick your ass, no problem and you would never know they were gay.

I know for a fact I served with gays when I was in the service. So what. Some where great workers, two of them were horrible. (These were the ones I knew about)

Who cares other than homophobes, especially ones from 52nd street. :doubt:

yes they are, guys are pigs :)...but I understand what you are saying. The way I try to explain it is, do you honestly think all women want you? Seriously, do you think all women want you? They dont. Just like the fact that all gay guys wont want you either.

Ego's are a funny thing.

i hope one day we can be like the romans and the soldiers will just be constantly blowing eachother.. sweeet.

It is still, by definition and by actions, a sexual thing. some of you obviously don't care about those you want to force into this situation. It would by all means hurt the military. But I guess the Navy is used to it, and the gays on this board are all for it. But we did see that the majority of the active duty troops today still say do not rescind DADT.

Do you honestly think you didn't serve with gays? In hind sight, seriously, do you think everyone you served with was straight?

if you really believe that, then you are either naive or just want to be blind.

It wont make a bit of difference. Its been proven by other large militaries. The homophobes will come out of course...

Turing was a quite brilliant mathematician, most famous for his work on breaking the German Enigma codes. It is no exaggeration to say that, without his outstanding contribution, the history of World War Two could well have been very different. He truly was one of those individuals we can point to whose unique contribution helped to turn the tide of war. The debt of gratitude he is owed makes it all the more horrifying, therefore, that he was treated so inhumanely. In 1952, he was convicted of ‘gross indecency’ - in effect, tried for being gay. His sentence - and he was faced with the miserable choice of this or prison - was chemical castration by a series of injections of female hormones. He took his own life just two years later.

There was rumor and I had 2 females discharged from my Platoon, I don't believe they were gay but they decided not to fight it. And I know of one troop who was going to be processed out as I was doing my final out processing. They found gay porno films in his wall locker. Other than that I do not know of any gays that I served with. There may have been some, but I didn't know about it. And I would have heard about it if it was within my Battalion and sometimes within the Brigade. I believe it will make a difference, as I have said, we shall see.

Getting awfully lonely out there:

I care deeply for those men and women that are putting their lives on the line doing their duty. Who they have sex with in their spare time is far less important to me than what they have been called upon to do by their political masters. I am far more concerned that they have been recklessly placed in danger to fulfill the political ambitions of a President (Bush) who was , at best, the incompetent puppet of the fanatical right and profiteers. I am deeply saddened by those military personnel who have died in Iraq. They should never been asked to execute a war that was inevitably going to end in a quagmire, dragging on for many years and only ever going to be resolved satisfactorily by the people whose country it took place in. I only hope that the veterans of this war will be treated far better than those who had their lives shattered in the Vietnam War.

So far they have been treated much better.

I was in the Navy from 1969 until 1989. That's 20 straight years of unbroken service. I retired honorably and was glad I served. In that 20 year period of time I personally know of five different times in which gays were discharged from the service. In each case it was because the gays openly admitted their homosexuality and came out of the closet except in one case when two people engaged in homosexual activity was actually caught in the act onboard a ship I was stationed on. Their sexual preferences, while I was in, was not tolerated. As I said, I retired from the Navy in 1989. That was 20 years ago so I have been out of the military for as long as I was in. While I do believe the times are changing, I don't believe that allowing gays to openly serve in the military is going to be as well accepted as some seem to insist that it will. Myself, personally, I am glad I am no longer on active duty and have to tolerate this type of thing. I was not raised to accept and believe that homosexuality was normal - and I do not believe it is normal behavior now. I am very thankful that I don't have to put up with this crap. I believe that time is going to show that allowing homosexuals to serve openly is a very bad mistake.

perfect post. You really didnt know about the gays that were in your battalion because they had to hide it. They hid it because , like those two women you mentioned, they would have been kicked out.

There was also a time when blacks weren't allowed in a battalion just like yours a few years ago. Cant you see the same type things were said when they were threatened with segregation? Same crap. It will break up unit cohesion, it will not be normal, it will blah blah blah.

Racists, sexists, homophobes.....same crap.
