They have shots for that. As a precaution I had eyeball injections. They don't hurt but they did make driving home terrifying.

Sorry about the bad news, hope she gets better. Although 80 is a long life, I know it is still hurtful to know your mothers sick.

Don't give her up just yet. They have wonderful treatments for dry and wet macular degeneration now and many many people do not seriously lose vision and most no longer go blind. Just make sure you get her to a competent opthamologist who specializes in treating AMD. My aunt will be 99 next month and has been treated to AMD for roughly 25 years now. And she still sees well enough to read, enjoy movies, and live her life just fine.
