I think that you are completely mischaracterizing Trump and Vance due to political rhetoric.

There's something else going on. I, nor you, nor anyone else is exactly privy to what Trump has on Putin....but it's substantial enough that Putin is mad dashing at the moment and using "meat waves" that he really doesn't have the manpower to expend.

Putin is using North Korean, African, and Middle Eastern troops. Not many Russians left on the battlefield. Then there's the issue of military pensioners who became injured during the war. His budget has more than doubled. (Very expensive for at least a decade or more)

Then...there's ALWAYS something up with Ukrainian troops. Nothing is very straightforward in an asymmetrical warfare. Things are currently quiet while the seasons change....I do not expect that they will remain this way. They are too quiet. Meaning that something is in the works....like when Ukraine took territory away from Russia and Russia was totally unprepared.

Trump is too smart to be as autocratic as you are claiming. Nope....he is very shrewd and cunning. He also is compassionate. He is not unaware of what Ukrainians want and need.
