Ohtani closing in on the unthinkable 50-50 season!

Nobody cares about stolen bases, and there isn't a metric for it eithe
I like base-stealins.

There's an art to it. :04:

Who was that that was so good at that back in the day?

Oh! It wasn't my friend, it was my friend's cousin, he could steal the whole diamond if you turn your head,
and you better check him, and do it at the right base.

Ohtani is a great talent, but three bases are now 3 squares inches larger. But good for him.

He hit his 47th home run and stole his 48th base tonight. To have that combination of power and speed, he is a once in a lifetime talent. I know he wants to pitch again next year but I hope he doesn't. He's already had 2 elbow surgeries.

How did he cure his $100million gambling addiction?

The Cardinals used to be like a bunch of bees buzzing around annoying the opposing pitcher. They had so many stealers there were no bases left to run to. Coleman, Smith, Herr, McGee and more!

Only 48 stolen bases?

Maybe he will do better next year.

No one in the history of the MLB has the combination of power and speed that Ohtani does. There are only 6 members of the 40-40 club. There are 24 pitchers who have thrown perfect games. There are ZERO players who have hit 50 home runs and stolen 50 bases.

yawning. as a DH. Every 30 minutes they wake him up, your turn to bat is coming up. No extra risk of injury in the field. The game I used to like has become almost unwatchable. I don't know anymore. Strikeouts and swing and miss with guys yelling out cyber stats "he is 0-30 on first pitch 4-seamers in July".

He ran up a huge tab thru his Proxie boy servant. Or you think they street bookies would give $$$millions line of credit to a guy making $100K living in LA without owning a home or health insurance job? He gets away with it because MLB looked the other way.....like the Roids era. But Pete Rose and others banished to the woodshed.

That is a factor, agreed. But Ohtani is on pace to get well over 50 stolen bases and there are only a handful of players who are on pace for 40 this year. Again it is the combination of power and speed that makes the 50-50 level so unique.

His translator plead guilty to stealing Ohtani's money. It has happened many times in sports that an agent or close associate rips off his player for millions.

I agree. I don't think it will lessen Ohtani's accomplishment in the grand scheme of things. A player plays within the confines of his era's game. The so-called haters can't detract from that. Great players adapt. Cobb would have been great today or in any era.

I did not follow the Ohtani gambling story much, but this was my take. Perhaps the agent found it easier to rip off Ohtani because he's is a Jap who had/had limited English skill.

He's definitely a once in a generation player.

His fan base here in Southern California is off the charts.
