That is not true. Gypsies started migrating to the US since the Mayflower. After the abolition of slavery in Romania they emigrated to the US, after the fall of Austro-Hungary too. Even today there are many Gypsies going to the US claiming they suffered racism in their "native" Romania, Bulgaria etc.
There in total numbers are more Gypsies in the US then in Romania or Spain or Hungary or Bulgaria. But because the US has 300 million inhabitants it is few in percent.
