I may have shared this short documentary previously. I can't recall. Anyway, it's certainly relevant to the times.

Winner of Anthem Film Festival's highly-coveted Audience Choice Award. Off the Grid with Thomas Massie is an intimate look at a congressman’s quest for a self-sustainable life on his farm in eastern Kentucky. “My philosophy is live and let live: You don’t worry about what somebody’s doing in their hollow, as long as they don’t worry about what you’re doing in your hollow.”

I'm hesistant to share this blog, for a few reasons. Like really hesitant. It goes back to the grassroots days when we were busy getting our own people elected to local and federal positions.

But I'll share it anyway, it's relevant to the topical. He built his house himself, mostly from materials that were already there.

I've lost track of all the timber frames i've roped up over the years Natural one

But the truth is, the city escapees are descending on Vermont like the biblical plague of locusts right now

And they're all throwing 'federal reserve notes' at the trades faster than we can stuff our pockets

And I'm such a whore about it too!

This btw is the same guy who put Congress at risk by forcing them to travel back to DC for a vote that was already a done deal.

May I bump your old thread? I'm watching Homestead Rescue. In the last decade 2 million Americans have moved off grid. I love it. My brother has a property up north. It could have been off grid but it's not. It's got it all. I would have had a company haul one of those little homes you see on the side of the road, more like a shed, but they look like a little home? I would insulate one of those bad boys, put a pot belly stove for heat. A futon bed/couch. Maybe a couple lazy boys. That's all.

He drilled for a well. I would have done that. But I saw on Homestead Rescue they put in a shit burning toilet. Cool new way of getting rid of your shit. And they used the well to provide water. I would definitely want water.

I would for sure use as much solar as possible. He has a little river in the back I wonder if installing a water wheel could generate enough power. I believe so. Saw it on, you guessed it, Homestead Rehab. LOL.

I'm roping up a huge off grid at the moment, biggest 'off grid' facility i've ever done.

and it's all run by solar w/battery & genny backup

when i say battery, i mean something 2X4 by 4' high, somewhere 4-500 lbs

the technology sure has come a long way from the old days

Massie is about as close the small gov as you're going to get. A true inspiration.
