Obamacare Rationale?

Was keeping 21-25 year olds on their parents' policies a device for postponing political sticker shock when this group is forced to buy Obamacare?

Doubtful. Keeping young adults on parental policies was a way to make the parents pay for the policies at the increased rates because the young adults can't.

Or the other way around. There are plenty of young people who are supporting their parents and who could use this break.

Either way, I cannot understand why anyone would be against families sticking together for the good of the family.

There are some who believe that employers should be allowed to screw over their help. Incredibly, there are some who believe big corporations (insurance, pharma) should be allowed to control medical care - among other things. Why wouldn't those same people be in favor of families helping themselves?

IOW, if "corporations are people too", why shouldn't people get the same breaks that corporations do?

Letting 26 and under staying on their parents insurance was a terrible idea. The whole point of Obamacare is to have an equally distributed market to lower costs. When people are placed on their parents health insurance it's treated as the entire family and the cost is lower when compared to each individual on their own plan.

The numbers require a young population paying full price to off set the costs of claims made by older people. The law negated a large portion of the funds the law was seeking to gain. Policies are going to rise at drastic levels once the market catches up with the loss of those required young people.

If they are supporting their parents, their parents likely don't have good jobs which would mean they probably don't have insurance.

And if the young person is supporting them, they likely have a good job (or better than their parents) and don't need insurance.

That would not be a primary groups this is targeted for.

It is probably more an acknowledgement that Obama's economy can't provide enough jobs for young people (who "have to stay at home living in the same bedroom they were raised in").

I would assume that even blind partisanship could produce reasonable arguments.

A friend just showed me a policy renewal statement which raises his premiums from $600 to $900 a month. It also lists alternative ACA policies costing $800+ per month, but he will qualify for a near 100% subsidy! What the hell is going on? Is this some kind of gigantic shell game? Who is going to pay for this?

So the same plan is being raised by 50%. Same coverage ?

What happened to 2,500 savings ?

Excellent answers. I'm always so happy to see facts concerning ACA.

Did anyone mention that it also takes medical decisions away from big insurance and big pharm and gives it to the only two people who should have it - the doctor and the patient.

Our health care system" is not a system at all. Unless you've got the money to buy insurance, you're pretty much stuck with emergent care at a hospital, then being sent home with the instruction to see your own physician tomorrow. Reagan's socialist EMTLA is wasteful and very expensive.

The rest of the world is way ahead of us on this issue. The Princeton mess is the perfect example. The drug needed has been in use around the world for more than ten years but if a big pharma company can't profit, it will not be approved.

We need to demand the same caliber of care the rest of the civilized world takes for granted.

Please provide proof that my insurance company made my decisions for me or for the nation as a whole. Please back up your claims.....for once. And finding some petty little backwater example doesn't cut it.

Obama just made a whole bunch of decisions for people who were not at all interested in his help.

If they are supporting their parents, their parents likely don't have good jobs which would mean they probably don't have insurance.

I used to live in Arizona where there is no "Medicaid". Instead, they have this horrendous kind of quicksand they call Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, the purpose of which is to stop any and all care in hopes the patient dies. For people there or in R controlled states, handicapped/disabled parents should and could certainly be kept on the child's policy.

And if the young person is supporting them, they likely have a good job (or better than their parents) and don't need insurance.

Young people have accidents and illnesses too. One car accident can wipe you out for the rest of your life.

So, he's saving $600 a month? That's a sweet deal for him.

That's a better deal that I got: lower insurance premiums, scrips are less, two refunds on over payment because of the 80% mandate?

Rationale for Obamacare. Require everyone to reliably cover the cost of their own health care.

Subsidize those who can't afford it.

Provide tools so that people can obtain solid, comparable, understandable comparisons of their private insurance alternatives.

Rational for Obummercare......

Everyone gets healthcare even if they don't want it.

Leave about 30 million people out anyway.

Make deals with the insurance companies so they'll get even more rich.

So did this left wing blogger...

FOR THE LEFT: 30 MILLION LEFT UNINSURED UNDER OBAMACARE

BTW: This is a "debate zone". Just thought I'd point that out as you have not posted one shred of evidence to support any of your assertions. And you keep attacking people which needs to be reported.

Uh..you can click on the link and read the story. It isn't something I am claiming....and the story tells how they arrived at the number...

if you want to dispute that, but my guest.

Every year virtually every health care policy is canceled...... and replaced by an updated one.

Republicans, trying to throw Democrats, Obama, liberals, and the country under the bus, by demanding that it's their way (do nothing) or the highway, are trying to spin this year's repeat of every year, into the boogeyman of uninsured people.

It's 100% a crock.

Being updated does not mean they are canceled.

And 5 million people got canceled (not updated....which is what Obama said they could get).

So your claim is a crock.

The leftwing talking points leak like swiss cheese.

30 million with no insurance....something counter to Obamacare.

And people making 25 K a year paying 170/mo (and no subsidy) when they were paying 80 a month for adequate coverage.

Please keep your articles of faith the religion board. They are only horseshyt here.

Which is exactly what is happening.
Health insurance companies need customers just like all businesses. Despite the grandfathering alternative that they were offered, many firms (not all) elected to upgrade their 2013 policies to the better coverage of Obamacare standards.

Those people that you are talking about will have better 2014 health insurance than what they had in 2013.

More crap from the left.

People were told they could keep their insurance, not that they could have something different.

Twist it any way you like, our Affirmative Action Failure In Chief lied his sorry liberal ass off as did the democrats who rallied around him.

You might want to change the flavor of your Kool Aid....you are drinking a lot of it.

My policies don't get canceled and force me to shop for new ones. I renew every year by clicking a button. If I want to change coverages I can. For you to say that is the same thing is to ignore the reality of your failed effort at collectivism under an incompetent regime of assholes whose egos won't fit in the same 747.

Get used to it. Your dream of Russia will be history in 2016.

You think Hillary will govern any different from Bill ? Don't think so. She does not scare me. If she gets elected and has a GOP congress, she'll throw the libs under the bus just like Bill did.

Government said that, speaking for them, and evidenced by the grandfathering provision, people who liked their present policy could re-up for it.

It's nothing less than preposterous to assume that government was speaking for private insurance companies.

Clinging to ignorance is the Dunning-Kruger effect. You personify it. I don't know who you were in your previous incarnation here, but I don't blame you for leaving your old name behind and starting over. Unfortunately, you left your old name behind but kept your old ignorance.

What we have here is a classic case of projection.

And you can spare me the lectures on ignorance given that you are swimming in it.

A few facts will always going a long way in elevating your stature and credibility.

And. like Obamacare, you can only go up (so take heart).

I didn't leave my old name behind.....you are so uneducated.
