OAKLAND, CA ‒ Former President Barack Obama is putting more of his weight ‒ and words ‒ supporting Gov. Gavin Newsom's proposed Proposition 50 redistricting plan for California, by appearing in a television commercial.

Obama, who two months ago first spoke out in support of California voters deciding on redistricting options, said in a 30-second spot that began airing statewide on Oct. 14 that democracy is in peril, urging voters to support Prop 50.

"California, the whole nation is counting on you," Obama said in the commercial that debuted approximately three weeks before Election Day. "Democracy is on the ballot Nov. 4."

"Republicans want to steal enough seats in Congress to rig the next election and wield unchecked power for two more years," Obama said in the ad, which quickly features images of Trump, Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson as well as footage from recent ICE raids.

Comment:
Remember how the Democrats screamed when Texas wanted to redistrict.
The Democrat Party has been gerrymandering their blue states for many decades.
Obama is a raging hypocrite who is acting like they have never done this before.
California is already gerrymandered in favor of the Democrats, but I guess that they will try to squeeze out the few remaining Republican districts.
The Democrats are saving democracy by stuffing ballot boxes, and by arresting their opposition, and by illegally importing 10 million poor uneducated voters and by shooting their opposition.

So? Texas did it. Why shouldn't California? The rest of what you posted is urban legend BS.

Wait. What?

Dimwingers claim gerrymandering is bad.

2 wrongs make a right.

American politics is so ******* pathetic.

Didn't democrats/liberals criticize Texas for doing that? If it's so bad for democracy, why is the response for what Texas did is to do the exact same thing? Makes you think it was never about democracy and it is all about power ... which this has been what it's about the whole time.

Yup..... Gerrymandering is bad, I've always said that.

So your point is I can't support something 'bad' to counter the criminal activity of the right wing cult?
Texas started this, CA is simply fighting fire with fire.
And yup, I support CA 100%.

Then you're one of those democrats/liberals that I talked about in #9. You don't like what Texas is doing, but support California doing the same thing. If you're willing to stoop to their level, don't talk to me that y'all own the moral high ground. Two sides of the same coin.

There is a Yuge difference between 'supporting' something and suggesting it is the right thing to do.

Apple to Oranges, WAR is NOT good, but IF attacked by a foreign Country starting a WAR, I will support the US retaliation by using similar or superior defense.

How dare democrats respond to gerrymandering with gerrymandering.

I guess California just didn't want of give Republicans the 5 seat advantage in the US House. Of course California put it on referendum and let the people decide, unlike Texas, cramming it down the throats of the voter and the Texas legislature, with a pure political power move. Letting the voters decide, was probably the better way to go.

Just like Newsome “let the voters decide” to keep him in office. Votes in California come out the way the Democratic leadership want them to.

According to 3 federal judge panel, the Texas redistricting was unconstitutional on Racial gerrymandering grounds and Texas will have to go with the Republican's 2021 redistricting, for the 2026 mid-term. So It looks like Trump will not get his extra 5 Republican seats.
