Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf joined Inside California Politics this week to share her thoughts on her city’s plan to hire more police officers in Oakland, reversing plans to shift policing funds to prevention programs.

“We have to dramatically increase prevention and intervention. But it should not be at the expense of policing,” Schaaf said.

Schaaf also talked about the impact of violence felt by city leaders across California.

“The pain that we feel … to know that we have failed that family in keeping their loved one safe, it is devastating,” Schaaf said.

Good. Hire more cops and let them do their job. Then make sure you have da's and prosecutor's that will properly punish criminals. Cops need to have a lot more slack in their chains and be tough on crime.

If you don't comitt crimes you never have to worry about the police. Criminals should be afraid of the police and even more afraid of their sentence if they are arrested.

No, it's called stupidity. That may be called politics for the left but not the right. We predicted the outcome of defunding the police before it even started. We predicted the outcome of SF when they made shoplifting a misdemeanor. It's no special talent we have, it's actually just plain common sense, something people on the left are void of.

Well good luck with that one. Finding people who want to be police officers any longer is a nationwide problem Our suburb has been looking for over a year. This idiot along with her fellow Communists have demonized police so badly nobody wants to do the job any longer.

In my area, the number of new recruits in the police academy has dropped significantly. Less than 20 in the last class. Kids hear the left and the media bleat about how cops are evil and racist and that is keeping them out of that career path. Nobody wants to put up with the BS you’re going to take.
