The naked part of the parade was about 10 old men in a separate area...children were invited to the Pride Parade, as they should have been. Not it.

A very small number of participants in the annual parade are nude.

Councillor Doug Ford brought the matter up in early February when he criticized the parade to media representatives, complaining it includes “buck naked men” — a phrase he used five times in four minutes.

Toronto is slated to host World Pride in June, a major global event the city had to bid to host. Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly will represent the city, as Mayor Rob Ford has said he will not attend.

The Toronto District School Board regularly has a float in the parade, and many OSSTF branches march in it. Among the ranks of marchers are police officers, Olympians, soldiers in uniform, councillors, residents and others.

“To me, it’s a minor issue compared to what the Pride parade represents overall,” Joliffe said. “I think they’re clouding the issue — they’re trying to raise a red herring in order to extend their own agenda, which is against the entire notion of tolerance in a very diverse society.”
