Now Obama Slaps the Gay Community with Rick Warren

I can staff my team with a lot of people with different views, but it does not change the way I operate

Rather an ignorant remark. Good leaders do this. It gives them more accurate information. Bush didn't.

Oh, golly, maybe that's why the economy etc is fucked up.

I think this year it was plainly obvious that the McCain vote was a protest against
Obama, but the Obama vote was out of true excitement for the candidate.

Well...granted there was great enthusiasm for Obama in some quarters.

But here you have people like BAC and myself, and I think even you have to admit that we lean rather left, and neither of us is expressing much enthusiasm for Obama's leftist leanings, now are we?

So I have to tell you that the people who you assume are leftists is somewhat clouded by the MSM.

Perahps rather than believing what the MSM is telling you are leftists, you might want to at least consider the possibility that you are being mislead about what leftists REALLY believe.

And not only what they believe about Obama, but about what they believe in general about economics, politics and society overall.

There are at least three or four SERIOUS leftists on this board and they do not believe most of the crap you have been propadgandized into thinking ALL leftists believe.

I'm more outspoken about ignoring the MSM than ANYONE around here. They're leading this nation to slaughter.

I haven't been politically active lately. I'm only going on what I see around here, I should have clarified that.

But yes, I freely admit that I assume most Obama voters aren't displeased. That, or they'll backtrack and pretend this was something they foresaw all along.

I can tell you that the more left-leaning dems are not thrilled with Obama's choices. His Hillary-haters were not happy at all and the anti-Israel folk were ticked off from day one because he chose Rahm Emanuel as Chief of Staff. (you know, how dare he choose a jew with "ties" to Israel? yadda, yadda, yadda).

As much as I am very happy with most of his choices, the further left folk are equally unhappy.

The concept of dems being some homogeneous group always makes me laugh.

I think Will Rogers said it best...

I don't belong to any organized political party...

.. I'm a Democrat

I'm disappointed to see him pandering to the wingnut religious faction.

I'd prefer they stay with the Republicans.

If it were just pandering, it would bug me. I don't think it is for two reasons:

1. Apparently Obama and Warren are friends, or at least acquaintances, and Obama refers to the guy in one of his books in friendly manner; and

2. I think Obama really does want to try to pull together, to the extent it is possible, people who disagree with him on issues. One way to do that is to be respectful about differing views. And one way to do that is to bring a guy like Warren in to do something like give a prayer. It's not substantive policy, but it's at least a tacit acknowledgment of a different viewpoint and a way to show respect for the differing views.

Unlike, for example, this site, I don't see any reason that the vast majority of liberals, conservatives, libertarians, socialists, etc. can't be respectful of one another's viewpoints even while opposing them as policy.

What will be interesting to see is if pandering to those who didn't vote for you while ignoring those who did equates to successful politics. I don't think there are any examples of that being true .. but perhaps Ibama is indeed the messiah and can make it happen.

Doubt it.

Except that he has another pastor speaking who holds the opposing views, so the opposing view is not being ignored.

I'm not talking about pastors .. and I know Rev. Lowery. He doesn't have the same views as Obama on a lot of issues either.

If it was just dueling preachers no one would care. But Obama has ignored and even stuck his finger in the eyes of a great many who supported him. Whether THAT amounts to successful politics is yet to be seen.

The problem is, even though the more far left people supported him, they aren't sufficient to give him a win anymore than just the right-wing is sufficient to give a Republican a win. To win, you've got to have good moderate support, and those people like to see a more reasoned approach to appointments and not a catering to the extreme wing.

One of the biggest mistakes the GOP made over the years was catering to the religious right.

One of the biggest mistakes the Dems made was having nuts like Michael Moore as part of the public face of their party and prominently positioned at their convention. They stopped doing that, and it has led to victory.
