Not sure what to make of this.

Rolling Stone is noted for having writers educated beyond their intellect so the "gun lobbyist" bias is expected.
But, I'm wondering a few things after reading the article and that's why the title-

The first thing that came to my mind was a man being innovative in his search for help in a predicament he really has little to do with by his daughter who was an idiot.

We know the godvernment hates innovation it has no control over so it makes criminals of Individuals who seek help outside the parameters of godvernment approval. To me, that raises the question, by what authority, real or mostly imagined, does godvernment get to choose an Individual's course in his pursuit of Life, Liberty and Happiness, which THE reason this Country was founded with a federal government whose job was to "secure" our Liberty against a tyrannical entity using the color of law as an excuse?

The second thing that comes to mind is The Drug War which is THE problem as near as I can tell and not only is it OUR problem it causes problems in other Country's- and I really believe that circumstance is intentional.

So, what do y'all make of the article?

Wow! Great writing and research by Seth Harp for the Rolling Stone. Truly amazing. I had no idea the magnitude or the ins and outs of that business. For me an interesting insight, but also reads almost like a how to primmer and why it can and often works and a shady business model. Thanks for posting it.

That was quite a read. I have to keep resorting to my normal default.

The United States is content to be the drug addict capital of the world. We start the kids off early with "legal" drugs and allow them to graduate to hard core drugs. Mexico and points south of there only fill the demand side of the equation.

You cannot turn back the clock on technology. The government may tell you there are 400 million firearms in the United States, but there are probably many more as any jackass with the IQ of an ape can turn out an AR 15. More laws to regulate weapons are about as worthless tits on a boar hog. It appears to me that the real problem is the drug addicts in America and the people in Mexico and south of there filling the demand. I, however, feel like an idiot. I've been to literally thousands of gun shows and had NO idea you could get an M134 on the black market. The only fancy thing for weapons I can find for you is a contraption that allows you to pull the trigger and fire a shot, then release the trigger and your weapon fires another shot. I've never shot one so I can't tell you if it's just some novelty item or whether it may have a practical use. They are legal so they can't make much of a difference in the weapon. BTW, there is a video on YouTube where a guy using his finger shoots faster than another guy using a bump stock.

The ONLY way America could impact this is to change our attitudes toward drugs. At the "legal" level, it should be the LAST option that parents and doctors should consider. Today it is the only option. The same should go for adults. Prescribe non-drug therapies first and go to drugs only as a last resort. Mexico could as Trump for 2500 special operators to track down and execute the most prolific drug lords, but that won't be done. Here is the rest of your story:

Ironically that Fox got mixed up with the very elements that destroyed his kids lives .

Even more ironic that he was doing what the USA has done for generations....arming the enemy!

I view this article as an attack on Class II and III license holders.
Really everybody should be able to own machine guns.
Pretty sure they could before the gangster days that Prohibition brought on.
Government created the problem then restricted the freedoms using a few bad actors as an excuse.

Follow the money see the agenda- it's said, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I'm not so sure though, that the intent was ever good, as that is highly subjective- good for thee but not for me comes to mind.

Porter has a good point about the addicts in this Country which reminds me of a book I read recently titled The Rag by Michael Connelly. It's a pretty cheesy, ciss, boom, bah red, white and blue book for the uninformed to rally round- but, the opening is about post socialist government take over of the US and how, in New Orleans, the epi-center of the prisons, the prisoners were kept compliant by making them take drugs.

Things like that, coupled with our History of control freaks being in charge, not only validates the knowledge that virtuous men have not been elected, but tyrants and despots posing as magnanimous and benevolent have sold our collective soul to the devil- and I'm not talking religiously, but, really.

Wrong. It was just bringing to light something most of us had not considered and explaining what might be called a business model. It did not propose legislation to deal with the business model described. If the flow of guns across the boarder is accurate, we are as much to blame for their gun problems and they are for our drug problems. I also thought it interesting that some Mexican mused that it might be a reason why Mexico might be better off building the wall to protect them from us, but I do not see them chunking the change any time soon.
