I was more talking about the part in the piece where they don't like showing women who don't dress modestly. Isn't that the whole point of the burka etc

Actually, upon reading the piece Penatta said there was a 20-25 minute window when there was no footage. How do you know this pic was taken at that time, instead of when there was footage?

no. it isn't a normal part of jewish faith. it's not so much that they're misogynist, but they are uber modest. they're wrong because nothing requires that type of extremism.

personally, i think fundies always suck when it comes to their treatment of women. i wouldn't go to an orthodox temple particularly BECAUSE of the fact that women are not considered part of the religion except for things that revolve around children/house/home/ and maintaining kashrit. but heaven forbid we want to study talmud.

and THAT is why there are different sects. what's offensive to me is going to be normal to someone else.

but to return to your question... no, there is nothing in judaism that requires that type of extremism. but then again, there's nothing in judaism that requires chasidim to dress like 19th century polish royalty.

I was more talking about the part in the piece where they don't like showing women who don't dress modestly. Isn't that the whole point of the burka etc

as much as i don't like the ultra orthodox tradition, wearing a wig isn't the same as wearing a burka. even the most orthodox women aren't covered head to toe, are educated, are allowed to work and function and drive and go into public without a male family escort.

i could go on in comparison with the abuses heaped upon women in islam, but i think you get the point.
