Well you can't have people up in arms unless you make dire predictions.
The problem with the whole global warming is we have attempted to extrapolate everything on the basis of a hundred year baseline on a planet that is millions of years old.
Most of the data that is being used to say the earth has warmed is based on faulty measurements. We are using more accurate equipment to measure temperature and ocean rise then was used even fifty years ago. Some of these areas were once pastures far away from civilization which are now beside buildings which are adding heat to the surrounding area.

The bottom line is we have a very lopsided very short term study that has almost no correlation to the length of time and an environment that we really don't understand. We look at Venus and extrapolate that all the greenhouse gasses are what is causing its high temperature. The fact that we don't even take into account the fact it is closer to the sun and that it is tremendous amounts of so called greenhouse gasses and very little else skews our understanding.
