There were actually almost a dozen high up people in the Nazi government that wanted to avoid war at all costs, and in their own way fought against it. But within every personality driven government, there are more than enough mindless parrots, or worse, true believers, that the cult holds power, and everyone knows any direct attempt to stop the war machine would result in instant death.

Yes, too strong for the US to invade. I'm not saying Iran is strong, but in order to invade, the US is going to want assurances that it doesn't end up like Vietnam.... Iran could potentially end up like that.

The reason Vietnam ended up the way it did, is because we caused it to.

Simply put, we told our troops to go into Vietnam... and then not kill the enemy. In order to win, you have to kill the enemy. You have to force them to surrender.

Our government under left-winger LBJ, specifically prevented our military from chasing down the North Vietnamese, and killing them. Instead we just marched around in circles, until they attacked again. Then we'd fight until they left, but again not chase them. March around in circles again, until they attacked again.

If we go into Iran, with a "conquer Japan" view, we will destroy them. We will crush their military, destroy their defense, wipe out their government, and eliminate Iran from existence. We can rebuild it, put up an election of their own people, put in place their own government, and leave. Just like we did in Japan. And it will work.

If we go into Iran, the same way we did Vietnam, with idiots in government, micro-managing the war, preventing our military from killing the Iranians, preventing them from flattening the government, preventing them from destroying their defenses and such..... then it will end up another Vietnam.

It's the simple. If the government lets the military do, what it does best... we will win. If Left-wing government bureaucrats micro-manage the war, it will fail.

Think about Bush and Iraq. When Bush let the military handle Iraq, things went smoothly. But then he put bureaucrats in charge, and the result was the mayhem of 2005-2006. 2007 was the ringing of announcement the military was back in control of Iraq, with the surge. And ounce again, things went very well.

Of course once Obama released all the prisoners, and allowed the creation of Islamic State, things got bad in the region again.

But that's what it's all about. You let the military do it's job, they'll do it. You start screwing around with Hollywood movie watchers in charge of military policy, and you end up with crazy.
