So - obviously everyone has rights. But what are the rights, exactly, that you are talking about with regards to children and their parents, as it relates to this conversation about same-sex couples?

The same rights that they have in any marriage. I don't really know what they are, not being a family law specialist.

Just wanted you to be aware that it is not simply a matter of two consenting adults making choices that do not affect anyone else. Children have actually suffered bullying and physical assault because they were in a family with gay parents. People might like to pretend the world is perfect, but it isn't, and any discussion of marriage involves more than the two people involved. This is especially true if we are talking about state sanctioned legal benefits that accrue from a recognized marriage. It imposes a burden on people who choose not to get married if we expand the tax benefits of marriage to more people than were able to grab it before, it can impose financial obligations on others if one. or more, of the people involved are members of the military or otherwise employed in the public service sector.

We should simply eliminate all state involvement in marriage, and end all the debate about the subject.

As a libertarian I could really care less who ***** who and who marries who.

As a Catholic I find "gay marriage" to be wrong - however, what others do is their own business...

Unlike many I'm able to separate my politics from my religion (or personal belief structure).

If you are a libertarian and care less who marries who, then why do propose that same-sex couples seek a "civil union", and opposite-sex couples seek a "marriage" under state law?

Why not just call them both the same thing - "marriage" (under state law)?

As I libertarian I don't believe the government (state or federal) should recognize marriage, however I'm not delusional and realize that unfortunately we have government (both state and federal) breathing down our necks...

But at the same time I'm not an anarchist - I believe in the Bill of Rights and the Tenth Amendment....

I'm not an anarchist.... I just believe that communities should be able to govern themselves in-connection with and under the Bill of Rights...

I don't believe we need 17 extra amendments that end with "unless Congress shall make/pass no law."

We're talking about strictly the public sector here, and how they should recognize same-sex marriage in the same way they do opposite-sex.
