Look at the UK and Brexit. Since Brexit they've lost about 12-15% on the value of the pound. All their exports have been reduced. They're selling MORE and making LESS money. They've lost far more money than they claimed they'd save by leaving the EU and they haven't even left yet.

That's the same response I keep hearing about everything--trade, NATO, EU, etc. etc. I think some folks need to realize that things are not the way they were fifty or sixty years ago. We do not have the best educated children or the healthiest citizens or the largest economy anymore. Times have changed. The world has rebuilt and countries that were knocked backward by WWII are back. Globalization has brought new major players onto the field, like China. The days of strutting around stiff necked and arrogant should be over. It's time we listened.
A lot of Americans think the UN's decision about our treatment of immigrants is right, too, btw. I know you don't agree with that, but maybe you could at least consider other ways of approaching the problem that don't separate children from their parents.

Every penny we spend on humanitarian aid is worth a dollar in military expenses down the road. Nikki Haley has been busy looking at how and where that money is being spent and that's a good thing, but stopping the aid like you want to do? Short sighted and not a "savings" at all. We don't do it to be nice.

Until its founding, there has never been an international Council where every country in the world could gather to talk and to address problems that impact each other. It is designed to let people argue rather than invade or bomb each other. And do not forget: Without the UN, there would not have been enough effective sanctions to bring North Korea to last week's summit. Do not forget that.

The UN Human Rights Council condemned the USA for the way it enforces it immigration laws.

But what really seemed to irk Ambassador Haley when she got out of bed on Tuesday was the U.N.’s “hypocrisy by calling out the United States while it ignores the reprehensible human rights records of several members of its own Human Rights Council.” The HRC is a body that currently includes such bastions of enlightened humanitarianism as Afghanistan, China, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iraq, and Venezuela, to name just a few.
