Donald Trump believes he has found the perfect encapsulation of the decline of America: the NFL’s efforts to stop head-on collisions in football.

Speaking at a rally in Reno, Nevada, he lamented a game that has “gone soft”, while appearing to reference the penalties thatcost the Cincinnati Bengals their playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

So they shouldn't worry about serious head injuries and spinal injuries, as long as people can watch and claim America is still tough?

Utter bullshit.
It has not gone soft, it has started to care about the players.
Burfict's hit on Steelers brown was downright criminal, and it isn't the first time he has done it.
He is the criminal element in the NFL.
The league must and will punish him severely.

The thug element ruined the game last night. That someone wants those idiots to be able to continue to hurt people is ridiculous.

yes.
I am a life long Steelers fan...there was a time when Harrison was playing too rough, and through many penalties and a lost year..he got the message and plays better now.
But players like Burfict are downright ENCOURAGED to play like a thug. Cincinatti fans are among the worst in the NFL - something shown clearly Saturday night with throwing trash at an injured Steelers player going to the locker room.

These are foitball players, not Rhodes Scholars. Their purpose in existing is as America's blood sport. If they weren't getti g paid millions of dollars a year to put their name on the bsck of their jersey they'd largely be getting paid thousands of dollars a year to work with a name tag on the front of their shirt.

It is obvious that Burfict aimed his shoulder at Brown's head. Anyone who think that sort of play should be celebrated instead of penalized is a sick ****.

Nice generalization. Thanks for offering nothing to the topic.

Burfict should not be allowed to play. PERIOD.
And any team that signs on/keeps a player like him is a disgrace to the game.
He shoved a camera to the ground and injured the cameraman in the process.
He was fined not once, but twice for PURPOSEFULLY twisting ankles of downed players.
He danced a celebration dance over Steelers injured Bell while laying injured on the field.
And now this...
He is a criminal and should be banned. PERIOD.

LOL. So you're telling me most of the 1700 NFL players would be law abiding, middle class Americans if they were NFL players? I don't think so.

No, I am saying that your statement is a generalization and that you offered nothing to the topic except your usual negative bullshit and stereotyping.

Are there thugs in the NFL? Sure no argument from me there. Are the majority of the players uneducated and criminal? No, I have seen nothing to suggest that.

Not wanting people to die at an earlier age purely for our own entertainment is making America weak? Not hardly.

Trump is an idiot.
He must of read the report that there was a drop of concussions this season.
"Data provided to The Associated Press by the NFL ahead of its annual pre-Super Bowl health and safety news conference Thursday shows there were 111 concussions in games during the 2014 regular season, down from 148 in 2013, and 173 in 2012, a 36 percent drop over that three-year span."
NFL: Concussions down 25 percent for season
What the hell is the NFL doing, protecting it's employees from permanent brain damage? Has Trump ever played the game? No, he's too big of a *****.
Speaking of soft, I would care to bet that pudgy Trump can't walk up a couple of flight of stairs without taking a break. Soft, Trump has lived the soft life his entire life.
But have no fear, eventually some brilliant poster will start another thread proclaiming "Trump is right" again about America getting soft and using the NFL as an example.

Suh is another player that needs to be looked at seriously. How many QBs have to be injured before the NF L catches on to his dirty tricks.

15th post
Cincey fans have pissed me off.........they've taken the title of 'worst fans in the league' away from us Philly fans. What's this world coming to?

The idea the we are soft because we don't want to see athletes suffer serious injuries for our entertainment is ridiculous.

I thought about this post today, and it galls me.

You (and Donald Trump) sit on your ass and WATCH a sport, then have the audacity to demean it because we are trying to stop these athletes from suffering serious, potentially debilitating, injuries? You call THAT being soft?

I would call demanding that the athletes ignore safety in the interest of more violent impacts, while you risk nothing and contribute little, being very soft.
