Newsom didn't challenge in 2024 because he either didn't want to be tied to the outcomes of the Biden and Harris administration and / or he was told not to run by the same group of leaders that did a soft coup on Biden.

Let's be clear Biden did not drop out.
I expect we will eventually find out just how ugly it got behind the scenes. He was pushed out.

Biden was adamantly opposed to withdrawal right before the donors forced him out. A sitting president who won almost all the votes in the primaries tossed aside by the big donors.
