In 1988 California's voters passed a law that allowed the governor to overturn parole board decisions when it comes to convicted murderers. Newsom obviously feels the board made the wrong decision. Probably a political move by Newsom.

My parents were part of Kennedy's California team, and were in the Ambassador Embassy ballroom when all of this went down. It was a horror for my parents, and my mom ended up getting trampled in the confusion.
