Milly Allcock.

I remember this girl from HBO's series "House Of The Dragons". She played the Princess Rhyaeran Targaryen. (too many vowels)

She was one of the reasons I bothered to watch the series, along with the male protagonist played by Matt Smith who played Prince Daemon Targaryen.

When they changed actors to an older Princess Rhyaeran Targaryen, played by Emma D'Arcy (not enough vowels), the series lost some of it's personality.

However, director James Gunn, who directed movies like "Guardians Of The Galaxy" 1, 2, and 3, "Suicide Squad" and the latest remake of the Superman franchise (which I thought was pretty good, BTW), I think he went too far trying to make Supergirl into some sort of drunken teenage rebel.
All of the usual Hollywood stereotypes were predictably present in this film, along with a fuzzy super dog Krypto, which I think was only put in the film to become a tear-jerker. I hate it when they hurt animals in films.
This is what Hollywood (or UK cinema) thinks kids should be. Drunken teenage rebels raising a ruckus and causing all sorts of chaos. Never mind the fact that anyone with Krytonian DNA can't get drunk on a planet with a Yellow Sun.

The first turn-off was immediate in the trailer with the use of Blondie"s hit song "Call Me" as the theme song. Is the director trying to say Supergirl is a slut, or is she a gigolo?

I guess he wants us to think that "girls just want to have fu-un" while kicking the crap out of mean bad-guys.

Featured quote; "He (Superman) see's the good in everyone......and I see the truth."

What makes Superman super, in my mind, isn't just his powers....it's his positive attitude about the human-race. I love films that bring out the positive rather than focusing on the negative. That's what you almost always can expect from a Superman film.

It remains to be seen if this movie will be successful with that element practically missing from the film. Spending $300 million on a film that only makes $50 million doesn't sound like a smart idea. I do hope they make some decent bank on this film, because I'm a sucker for super hero films. Good or bad, I always buy them. The Green Lantern stinker of a film for example.

Even with great actors they sometimes can't overcome a lousy script. Supergirl's cameo introduction in Superman was horrendous. I dreaded what they were planning for her own feature film.

Here's the trailor and a follow up review of 2026 "Supergirl":

Gigolos are men.

well, it isn’t a SuperMAN film, now is it? Would be boring if it had the exact same tone and outlook
Never mind the fact that anyone with Krytonian DNA can't get drunk on a planet with a Yellow Sun.
wasn’t the whole point of that scene that she had to fly to another planet in order to get drunk? Of course, that begs the question of how she flew back to earth

Is seeing supergirl get drunk really that big of a deal? A young person getting drunk how and then is perfectly normal and relatable

No shit, Sherlock.

Is it necessary to make Supergirl a drunk?
What's the point of that?

Why is anything necessary? Maybe they wanted her to be a relatable, realistic character rather than some paragon of virtue. Superman’s already got that covered.

She’s a young woman. She gets drunk on occasion. Like the vast majority of young women do.

And do you really think the occasional night out at the bar makes someone “a drunk”?

Oooops, my bad.
I forgot: we can no longer have characters that are to be looked up to or admired or heroes we look up to, we must drag them down and create them with major flaws so they're "just like us".
And, no, an occasional night out at a bar doesn't make someone a drunk. But a character who has to fly to another planet to get a drink just might have a problem.

And even if they do write her as having an actual drinking problem, well, that might be an interesting take

Real people have real problems and the trend in super heroes has been to portray them as real people who happen to have super powers

she had to go somewhere with a red sun....i believe she was picked by a space craft to get there...

Well, there’s Superman. So you do have your role model hero

Maybe being compared to her role model cousin is a hard burden to bear

I have no idea if this movie will be good or not yet, but these are all perfectly valid and natural paths for the storytelling to take

They seem to be trying to make Supergirl the kind of flawed hero that Batman was in his early days as a comic book character.

I would much prefer to see Batgirl done up that way. Maybe as a hard-drinking ex-cop kicked off the force for one too many "righteous" shootings, who now fights crime all night, gving criminals beatdowns instead of arresting them, then drinks herself to sleep before waking at noon to research cases and train.

she seen her planet getting destroyed when she was pretty young...its supposed to be her trying to deal with it...the movie is based on this comic from 2022...

It is a deliberate trashing of American values.

In the past, we have had teens who were addicted to drugs, raging alcoholics, thieves, murderers, child pornographers, black marketers, and child slavery. All those things have existed in the past, and most of them are present today.

Shall we just portray Supergirl as a seeker of open borders and traffic in child sex slavery?

After all, young people are doing that too!

I'd watch that. Well, depending on the costumes. :muahaha: :muahaha:

I’ll admit that, of all the DCU’s super heroes, it’s surprising they’re going gritty with Supergirl.

Maybe that’s the point. A contrast to her cousin and to the saccharine sweet character she was in the silver age

Allcock is a good actress and Gunn did a good job on movies like Superman and Guardians of the Galaxy. No reason to think this movie won’t be entertaining
