Oops! Adults over age 65 are at an ELEVEN TIMES INCREASED RISK for getting Shingles between the first and second vaccine.

Yes, you read that right: a risk elevated eleven times.....they are calling this a "transient" increased risk. Umm???

Not close to 65 and I had no problems with the Shingles shots other than they hurt more than other jabs. Anyway, do as you want. I don't care. After seeing what a relative went through with shingles, I decided why the hell not. It was free to me.

Propaganda ! Why don't you tell the whole story instead of just your anti vaccine fear mongering?

AI Overview

The shingles vaccine is highly effective at preventing shingles. However, there is a small chance of getting shingles even after vaccination.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the shingles vaccine is:
  • 97% effective: at preventing shingles in adults aged 50-69

  • 91% effective: at preventing shingles in adults aged 70 and older
Even if you get shingles after vaccination, the vaccine can help to:

  • Reduce the severity of the symptoms
  • Shorten the duration of the illness
    • Lower the risk of complications, such as postherpetic neuralgia (long-term pain after shingles)

Well that's good for you, you made it through the danger period after the first shot.

AI is not a study.

But please: keep getting all the vaccines

Actually had the star of shingles, went in forget what they gave me but it knocked it out. then got the vax. Father-in-law had it sorta bad....not good

Shingles is terrible.

You have an 11 fold increase in getting it after the first shot. No thanks.

Well that does it then, no studies necessary. TRUST THE SCIENCE (or the anecdotes I guess, take your pick)

FYI: If you had chicken pox as a child and don't get vaccinated your odds of getting shingles 1:3. After vaccination it's 1:20 odds.

Make an informed decision.

Those odds were probably figured before this study....

Here's the conclusion from the study:
Conclusions: There is a transient increase in shingles presentations shortly after dose one of RZV
vaccination in adults ≥65 years of age; however, these cases are likely to be mild and there is clear
evidence of vaccine effectiveness after the completion of two doses.

The risk increase is for those 65 and older, and those who did get shingles apparently mostly got mild cases. It is still a risk, but it's not simply anyone who gets this shingles vaccine is 11 times more likely to develop shingles.

Yes they were. One thing to remember is the the increased risk between the 2 shots is only 21 days. And the increased risk was only for people 65 or over.

And females are at slightly higher risk than males.

It's a 1 in 3 chance without the vaccine if you had chicken pox. And shingles can be an absolutely debilitating because of the intense relentless pain.
