A Maryland father has enraged his neighbors by building a half-mile go-kart track for his motorsports-loving son on their 11-acre property.

Charles Siperko, CEO of KCS Roofing in Columbia, Md., began constructing the practice course for his 11-year-old on his property in the Highland Community of Howard County in August, but was quickly met with disapproval and pushback from disgruntled community members.

The property sits on a private driveway 1,000 feet off the main road, blocked by trees and brush, 23 miles north of Washington, DC, satellite images show.

11 acres, 1K feet off the road..... Far enough to have some buddies over to shoot some clays.....Often. ;)

NIMBY Karen cat ladies should be given no quarter. After all, someone who has the money to do this also has the money to build a Killdozer.

I imagine they are using that as an excuse to stop it, and it really is a loud eyesore in a rich residential neighborhood.

They are lucky. In Texas, by state law if you own 10 acres you can put up a range and shoot all day.

As long as he keeps operating times during daytime, the opponents can go suck on it.

Some people are always looking for an'' issue'' to ''litigate''. There are ceartin people mostly Northerners who cannot mind thier, own business. I wold buy myself a gocart and ask permission to use it and maybe have neighberhood get togather there.

Depends what the local ordinances are of course. That may not be the case. I bet he did the cardinal error of not inviting the neighbors over to ride and have a party.

Track looks a little wide to me for some reason.

Probably the "my body my choice" crowd complaining about it.

They get offended and butthurt over everything.

Misery loves company.

DO NOT hire this guy for any roofing ... "Siperko claimed he didn’t know he had to obtain permits to build the course on his property, saying he was either “naively or stupidly” unaware and believed the asphalt company that said a permit wasn’t needed if the pavement wasn’t going to attach to a public road." ... clear indication of low IQ ...

The CEO of a roofing company in Maryland knew perfectly well he needed a building permit ... he's either stupid or a thief ... if he steals from the government, he'll steal from YOU ...

=====

The larger issue here is zoning ... do We the People have a right to say what you can or cannot do with your private property? ... it's easy to come up with extreme examples, a 24/7 loud-assed steel mill in a residential neighborhood, a spent nuclear fuel rod storage heap, your deadbeat brother-in-law's family ...

The article says construction was halted, and a permit is in the works ... and we'll see if this racetrack is lawful ... it's Them the People of the State of Maryland who decides ... Oregon has draconian land use regulations, and there's no more "Public Facilities" land available for this type of construction ... this lot would be "Rural Residential" at 11 acres, and a racetrack is strictly prohibited ...

The sad part is young boy [will mature] and he'll be chasing girls in two years ... biology will always triumph ...

Probably wide because the kid is learning, and better he drive wobbly over a larger area than whack into the track protection or run into the grass.

Between Maryland and Delaware, the diaper sniffers generally try to declare every little mud puddle a wetland.

We get morons that move to the exurbs and complain about the smell of livestock.

Hint...stay in the city and enjoy the fumes of pollution and the noise of traffic and crime.

They have even complained about shooting ranges that have been there for decades, but apparently didn't have the diligence to look at what surrounds the property.

Hell you get people moving to NYC and then complaining about the noise of the bar they live above, even if that bar was there for 60 years.

People are assholes.

I live far enough out that I can access snowmobile trails right from my property.
Assholes have tried in vain to ban it, but hundreds of snowmobile club members showed up at the City council meeting and it helped that some council members were riders themselves. In fact, they passed a city ordinance that allows the use of snowmobiles in neighborhoods to access the trails and highway ditches and allows ATV and golf cart use on residential streets.
Folks with larger acreage have built dirt bike tracks and their kids learn to ride machines on their own property before they are legal to ride the trails.

Karens can stay in the metro.

Fuck that, you guys take them. :)

More spots for them to "disappear"

Lol, hate to tell you this but this happens in Republican controlled Ohio also. One of thousands of cases in point was Polaris amphitheatre. Was around for decades. A bunch of Richie Riches started building McMansions in the area. Got it closed down on noise ordinances. Millions of dollars to build that amphitheatre and it was there long before the subdivisions. It still got closed down. It is the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules. Ain't no different any where you go.

The Forest Hills Tennis Center, now the Forest Hills Stadium in Queens NY almost had the same issue.

The compromise was simple. Concerts end at 10PM sharp.

It's been working for decades now like that.

Fair point.
Also they have electric carts now. I would imagine they are much more quiet than the lawn mower carts we used to have.

They are wine-sipping greenies who hate karts because of the internal combustion engines
