I was running some duct work under a house I'm gonna flip. As I was doing this I found a rusty beat to death Kabar looking knife. It was a lost cause for sure, but I wanted to see what it looked like under all that rust. So I took it to the shop, and soaked it in Evaporust, over night. This stuff works miracles on rust. After a rinse and a steel wool treatment I was a bit disappointed. I didn't see any markings on the blade to indicate its maker. So I figured it was just some crappy knock-off.
Then I went to work on the guard, and surprise? It is a WWII USN issue, Camillus made Kabar knife. Pretty cool. Judging by the wear on the blade this thing has been used a lot. If not just used up entirely.
