Elon Musk’s DOGE subordinates received approval to use software at the Labor Department that could be used to transfer large amounts of data, two employees said.

The software in question is called "Putty". If you've ever used it (I use it every day), you know that it's NOT data transfer or file transfer software. (For that you use FileZilla or some other FTP program).

Putty is for terminal access. It allows you to log in to remote systems. It doesn't transfer anything, it just lets you in. It's a remote terminal, that's all.

NBC is fear mongering in the worst possible way. They're counting on voter ignorance. In efficient English, they're lying.

You "can", if you're willing to capture text and binary and sit through the translation. Nobody uses it for that purpose though. Ask anyone. No one's going to use Putty for file transfers. Like I said, they're going to use FileZilla where you can transfer thousands of files at once instead of just one. No computer professional is going to use Putty for file transfers.
