It could be. The earth's magnetic field weakening like that lets in a lot more radiation. Radiation causes mutations. So it could wipe out humanity or it could cause an evolutionary jump.

The last time they flipped was when our ancestors Homo Heidelbergenisis roamed the earth. After that it was the Neanderthals with the humans of today being the last line of Homos.
