In 1945 Bedouins digging at a cave discovered an earthen jar. When they opened it, they thought sparks of gold flew up into the heavens. They were certain the vessel contained gold or a djinn, a genie to grant their wishes

Upon closer inspection, all they found were disappointing sheets of paper - in a jar which had been buried near a 4th Century monastery. Thinking their only use was to kindle fire, they brought the jar home and burned several layers of the papers

Once word of the discovery spread, the remaining papers were rescued and eventually translated into what is now known as the Nag Hammadi Library

I grew up Roman Catholic and felt a deep affinity for Jesus, but grew increasingly dissatisfied and disillusioned with the Church itself, especially the hierarchy and intermediaries.

More and more I find myself returning to these verses

Here is a synopsis of a portion of the Gospel of Thomas

Well, if it isn't in 'The Bible', it's not the inspired Word of God.

There are lots of writings about Jesus and the things He said which are not included in the Bible. But the jesus in the Nag Hammadi writings is not the Jesus of the Bible.

But, don't let that discourage you. If you believe the Nag Hammadi writings is the Word of God, and provides for your salvation in ways which give you comfort, by all means, enjoy your faith.

I understand

As I said, the Bible did not speak to me. The Old Testament was encoded; Zohar explains it. There was a big disconnect between, for me, in the Jesus of the New Testament and what I felt at the time.

Finding Nag Hammadi filled a gap, for me.

Bless you that we all find our way back home

I get people walking away from the Catholic Church or becoming disillusioned with their understanding of church teachings.
What confuses me is when they do so only to latch on to some kind of enlightenment beliefs which have next to no foundation of historical teaching.

People can think what they want about the Catholic Church but no other religion, christian or not, can back up their teachings to the extent of the Catholic Church.

A pity that some of the papers were burned

Well Judaism has had the exact same Torah for thousands of years consisting of the exact same 304,805 characters

If a scribe made a transcription error at 304,154, the entire scroll was buried

There’s a history to what Gospels made it into the New Testament. The works not included were deemed heretical and possession of them was punishable by death. The Priests at Nag Hammadi buried them for us today

Important to remember, just as the jesus in Nag Hammadi is not the Jesus of the Bible, neither is the home you find your way back to, the same as mine. Just wanted to be sure of that distinction.

No, the jesus in Nag Hammadi writings is not the Jesus of the Bible. Thus the message cannot be the same. Which the video you posted admits when it accusingly says on that title page, 'they erased these 7 sayings of Jesus'.

The big difference is always the Person of Jesus Christ. You can follow another 'jesus' if you want to, just recognize the outcome will not be the same. As I said, your going home is not my home.

IN THE lost Gospel found buried with the ancient Nag Hammadi library thought to have first been sources from in the First or Second Century but written in the 3rd-4th century, it said Father/Mother/Son then it became taught as Father/Word/Son only to be settled into the now deemed
Father/ Holy Spirit/ Son.

there was a technology used to unravel and read the burnt texts as best as it could, I saw the process of reading it on a tv special.

Where did you see that?

Constantine picked the various bishops to be allowed at Nicaea.
And he himself was influenced by particular early church leaders with their own agendas.
His only agenda was to quash schism and free speech.

Folks that believe the current iteration of the Holy Bible is the, "truth," so inspired by god, and not interfered with by the politics of men, would likewise believe that if the Department of Homeland Security released a Bible, that would be a sacred version as well.

All authorities want to manipulate and create narratives for their own purposes. This is why King James made his own version as well.

What I think would be fascinating, would be if Thomas Jefferson had been aware of the Nag Hammadi and its contents, if any of that would have made it into his version.

Lots of Nag Hammadi seems to me, to be more classically liberal in tone, and more in accordance with the founders and real American values, than only the core books sanctioned by Rome IMO.

probably the history channel, if I remember correctly the type of xray is done and a program unravels the scrolled papyrus on the computer then the screen filter colors or negative filters in a way that the light picks up the etched writting in the dark charcoal, something to that affect.

The technology used to "unravel" and read burned ancient texts, such as the Herculaneum scrolls, involves a combination of high-resolution X-ray scanning and artificial intelligence (AI). This non-invasive method is known as "virtual unwrapping".

And all uses of the Bible and the services were to be in Latin only.

I understand that.

I thought that several of the scrolls were used to start fires once the Bedouins thought they were worthless. Those weren't recovered
